I am wanting to start FW for some mild pvp, fw lp for ships and faction equipment and standings, I have decided that i want to join up with gallente, and have my standings up ready to join, is there anything i need to know? Should i just start a new alt for this or use my main, will my corperation be under siege if i join? What about a pos i have anchored in high sec?

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

If you enlist your corporation into faction war, your entire corp, and its assets, are valid targets to the enemy militia, even in highsec.

The likelyhood of a caldari corp entering your highsec to kill a POS is low (assuming the POS is in gallente highsec). The fleet would have to deal with NPC navy (there are ways around this) and most caldari are security status challenged (but the reverse is also true, if your POS would come under attack there are a lot of gallente that also cannot enter highsec to help you defend it).

If you do not want to leave your corp but want to join faction war you either have to make an alt or enlist your corporation as a whole.

I doubt squids would bother with it to be honest. There aren't any plexes in high sec.

Ty for the info, it sounds like I will be making an FW alt then.
Are battleships FW viable or should I stick with cruisers and below?

Situation dependent.

All ship types are used.

You really need to buy 50 frigates and a few cruisers for FW.

We occasionally used to use Battleships on bunkers - however T3 Battlecruisers are cheaper, offer better mobility and have great DPS so they have taken over in popularity.

If you fly a battleship solo in FW - you will lose it fast. 100% guaranteed.

Fast aligning ships that can GTFO when needed are best.

Is it safe to assume I should put a web and scram on all ships I undock from now on?

Depends, are you flying a kiting ship or a close-range-in-your-face ship? Scrams are good for fighting up close, otherwise I ould go with a warp disruptor if you plan to apply damage from more than 10 km away. Some sort of "point" and a propulsion module (your choice of AB or MWD for frigs, MWD pretty much mandatory for anything larger).

I would also suggest not fitting warp core stabs so you can quickly become respected for being the one frog that doesn't run away everytime a single caldari pilot enters local.

After I join I will assume every ship I undock will be destroyed, so no warp stabs for me, plus they totally screw scan Res.
Is podding allowed/standard during FW fights?

all your fw questions are answered here.

briefly:

1) use your main
2) stick to frigs/dessies until you get the hang of things
3) everything that Super Chair said

That's the right mindset for FW.

Podding is allowed, even in high sec, though I wouldn't call it standard because a good number of people are experienced at getting their pod out. It's more like... a treat when it happens.
