You should consider that you're not *actually* (aka: in the long run) helping people by giving them fittings to use.

Give a man a fish and he has food for a day,
teach him how to fish and he has food for the rest of his life.

This. If anything, randomly handing out fits without teaching what they're for and why they work hurts people. Not only does it not teach them to think for themselves, it teaches them not to think for themselves.

ill think ill just form the opinion from what I see here that people would rather be passive aggressive children than actually contribute things of use. So, to those that have attempted to contribute, i thank you.

Yes and no. As you might notice, I randomly throw out fits with impunity. Sometimes I include the logic behind them, sometimes I leave that to the reader to decipher. I don't mind answering questions that ask for a fit with an actual fit provided the parameters aren't absurd (and sometimes even when they are, but then the fits usually match that; see the Loki thread). Part of the reason for that is that an actual fit can engender specific questions and critiques (rather than the rather general parameters that usually serve to kick off such a thread). This can help get at a deeper understanding of the logic veterans take for granted.

Honestly, I'm agnostic on the question in general. However, this thread in particular was a train wreck from the get-go and I've been intentionally leaving it alone. The level of ignorance on display in the OP plus the general attitude of subsequent follow-ups (see above Roll) have drained any usefulness out of this attempt. Maybe next time....

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, take away a man's fish and he'll catch another one for you to take tomorrow. (author unknown - seen in some signature )

Wrong.

Seeing correct fits leads to udnerstand why they are correct then adjusting accordingly. My first rupture was a missile boat because i hung around with too many caldari. seeing some working fits made me go "hmm... maybe i should work out WHY those fits are better"

my point made as simple as it could be. Apologies if people thought I was ignorant, but i felt it was hard for people not to see this and react in a way to just perpetuate passive aggressiveness.

I do agree with you completely. Posting pre-made fits for people is definitely a great teaching tool. I was just pointing out that a thread full of fits with no context or explanation of why the fit is that way, simply there for copy-pasting into peoples hangers, does nothing to teach people.

A while back i started a few random thread for cheaper ships (frigates and t1 cruisers) that had 'cookie-cutter' fits as part of the OP. This was aimed at newer player. People then posted a few fits of their own. I may start doing this again as i think it's easier to navigate shorter, specific threads than to pick through 20 pages for a ship you like to fly...

OP,

I think you had a good idea, not sure why this got trolled down

Ship/type-specific fitting threads would be awesome, and reduce the amount of repeat questions.

Fits should be accompanied with reasoning behind them, and I'd maybe suggest moving PVE stuff to the PVE forum. Seeing all those CCCs and crap rechargers on innocent spaceships is detrimental to sanity and general well-being of EVE players.

Your guess is as good as mine. And good suggesting that pvp and pve fits be separated, or at least defined at the start.
