Prison is like a vacation in Norway. This guy will have a better life inside than on the outside.

Norway: where you can exact your revenge on whomever you want and how many you want and still be out before you hit retirement age, all the while being afforded amenities most citizens of other countries would dream to have. That's awesome.

Someone comes and kills your entire family in the middle of the night? Just hunt him down, torture him, chop him up into little pieces, do whatever makes you feel good to exact your revenge and not only will you do only 20 years in a prison that's like a holiday resort, if you commit the crime at age 20 you could possibly be out before you hit 40.

If I ever have to kill anyone, I'm moving to Norway.

Make sure you also do it in Norway... extradition is a ***** and you'll end up stuck in an Ecuadorian embassy P

I think that says a lot more about where you come form then Norway. As it happens Norway is a pretty awesome country with little crime. We just happen to have a good culture that does not foster crime, like say US.

Its all about prevention, not punishment.

Well, that's my point. Norway is the best country in which to live according to job growth, income, health care, quality of life, etc. It's a better society.

What Americans don't understand is that everything wrong with America is the fault of the American people. It's American society that has failed America, not the government. A government represents the people who elect it, not the other way around. Norway can afford to have such lax prison sentences because the country reflects its own society, which is a highly civilized, highly educated and with great social benefits for its populace.

I've always wanted to live in Norway. I live in Italy now, and although I'd prefer Norway, many of the same principles apply here as well in comparison to the states. There are just certain things that, due to a good social system, you just don't have to worry about, unlike when I lived in the US.

The only bad thing I can think of is immigration. Some people immigrate just to go to jail in certain countries so they'll be treated better, and Norway is one of those countries. I foresee some laws changing if Norway continues to expand its culture, because quite honestly the current system can be highly manipulated and taken advantage of.

However, you have to be honest: you're a very wealthy country with a very small populace. Everyone's happy because everyone has everything they want. You don't have much stress or worry unlike the US. Your society doesn't foster crime, not because of the type of people, but because of the quality of life you have. Were that ever to dry up, I think you'd see a huge change. Norway is the trust fund baby of the world; of course everyone's happy and civilized and crime is low.
