I am yearning to start flying lvl 4 missions. I am awares that as a rule of of thumb, Battleships are the ships to run in that league.

However, given how Tech III BC's are the blend between BC and BSh, it made me wonder, can these famed glass cannons run solo lvl 4 missions like a Battleship can?

My current idea is this:

A close Blaster setup is a big no no for me, so I am wondering if I should stick with a hyper sniper setup (129,000km range) to stay safe from the NPC's guns. With something like that, will I be able to fly lvl 4 missions? If such a thing is possible, what other setups can you kind folk recommend for soloing lvl 4 missions with a Talos? (aside from friends, hehehe)

Or should I head straight for the Battleships? Roll

First off, it's Tier 3, Tech 3 is something completely different (strategic cruisers).

No this doesn't really work solo and it's much simpler to use a battleship, both the Dominix and Megathron are respectable mission boats without the risk of getting blapped or tackled. (I'm guessing you're Gallente because you mentioned the Talos). Even if you could range tank (which some rats make hard), you won't find yourself doing much damage at 130km.

The Tier 3 battlecruisers can be used for fire support for someone else who is running missions however.

Point of clarification, it's Tier 3, not Tech 3. The only Tech 3 ships are the strategic cruisers.

And no, T3 BCs are not appropriate for L4 missions.

Glass Cannon and Mission running don't go along too well

Missions are filled with long, stable incoming DPS.
This is something you need to be able to tank, and as said the tier 3's (see above post for difference between T3 and tier 3) are glass cannons which means they have a weak tank (tank is sacrificed to be able to fit BS sized guns).

Things that can run level 4 missions:

A very well properly fitted BC (but it will be hard and slow).
A T3 (Tech 3) Cruiser (aka Strategic Cruiser - Tengu, Legion, Loki or Protheus)
A Battleship

Of course, cruisers can try, even frigates but it will be very very very hard.

Guess that answer my question. And righto, I be Gallente and fly Gallente ships, and I look forward to the Dominix and Megathron. I figured the low dps at extreme ranges, and yeah, i did contemplate the possibility of low damage output that would be cancelled out outright by the repairs of NPC targets. Your input is much appreciated.

Corp mates have reccomended me that, I guess that is the consensus from the looks of in the role of Tier 3 (Yes, I finally used it right! XD ) battlecruisers.

You can do _some_ L4s with a sniper BC, yes, in the same sense that you _can_ do some L4s with an interceptor.

Generally speaking, it's going to turn what is a slightly boring but not particularly dangerous 20 minutes of your life in a BS into edge-of-your seat twitch gaming where you have to warp in and out every minute or so. On that note, you can't warp in an out when there are rooms so literally any mission with a warp gate cannot be done this way.

As far as advice is concerned, suck it up and buy the BS. Gallente's BS lineup actually works fairly well at moderate to low skill point investments, or at least much better than, say, a low-sp Amarr or Caldari BS.

For lvl 4 ishkur > talos

However I love my t2 blaster talos for dps support.

Really though, you'll need a bs and heavy drones.

So 129,000KM range. i didn't know you could snipe at interplanetary distances. Nerf the TECH 3 BC's

Or it could mean 129km - a lot of countries use a comma as a decimal separator.

But seriously, there are two problems with using a Tier-3 for a Level 4 mission.

1: As stated above, they've basically only got a cruiser's tank on them. Keeping them at range sounds good, but damage drops as range increases, due to falloff issues or the need to load less powerful ammo to hit at longer ranges, so you won' t be able to throw enough damage to crack the tanks of the stronger rats without getting in close enough for them to shred you. And that doesn't even take into account:

2: Frigates and cruisers. If they get close to a Tier-3, they can shred it, and the only Tier-3 with any sort of defense against them is the Talos, which can throw out 5 light drones. Other than that, battleship guns can only hope to touch them at long range with minimal transversal, and frigates especially can approach quickly enough to get under your guns. And if you get a bunch of cruisers firing at you at close range, they can cause problems for a full-fledged battleship; a Tier-3 will get torn apart in short order.

You can do L4 in t3 BC, but the biggest problem I've seen people having is frigs getting in close, under the gun's tracking ability and they don't have drones to kill them off

I'm going to add that long range isn't inherently bad, just sacrificing short and mid range and your tank for it is bad. I fit 425's t2 on my kronos and start opening fire at 130km and usually have much of the wave killed before they get to mid range, but I stomp them even harder at mid range. My ideal range is 25 km.

I was able to reliably run Federation Navy Level 4 missions in a nano pulse Oracle without ever having to warp out.

With a 55-60km range on mega pulse lasers with scorch, you can pop frigates quickly before they get within 30km of you. The only tricky part is making sure that that when you warp in, the first thing you do is MWD away from Frigates that are nearby before they aggress on you. Use Eve mission guides to identify and turn down any mission that drops you too close to frigates in any room.

If a scram/web frigate gets on top of you, you will die (though this hasn't happened to me yet)

Once the frigates in a group are gone, the cruisers to BSs in it are easy . This is the fit I used.

I think you'd have better results with the command ships, moving on to battleships or the tech 3 cruisers would be you best bet. Battleship being the cheapest option, and it opens up marauders and the pirate ships as well. But training times start to get long in the tooth.

I like big guns. I can not lie. You other suckas can't deny. When I warp in, with an itty bity sig, with an arty in your face, you get sprung. You want to pull out your debuffs, 'cause you want to loot my stuff...deep, in a worm with nary, an escape but you can't stop staring. 'Cause, Oh crap!, Baby's got Point!

Yet, this is the New Citizens Q&A, which means a lot of NEW players will look at it.

EDIT:

A 2009 toon doesn't mean that he played from 2009 up till now. He might have made the account in 2009, played for 2 months, went inactive and just came back. This makes him a new player as he hardly played and lots has changed.

That depends on the BC itself. Some have (e.g. Talos), some don't (e.g. Naga)
