NPC Haulers Question

OK, so have recently moved back to HS for a break from w-space.

I have seen a lot of NPC haulers called such names as 'Trafficker' and 'Chandler' and other such names.

My question is does anyone know if I I attack these what sort of stuff they drop? Will Concord and/or the local Navy intervene and blow me up if I do so? Also, what sort of standings hit and security loss can I expect?

Basically, I see all these NPC's ganging up outside a station and feel obliged to blow them up for the lulz. I just want to know if anyone has done these and what sort of response to expect.

Thanks for any useful replies in advance. Pirate

if it's the WHITE NPC haulers ... the navies (and/or CONCORD) will get upset (IIRC ... I vote "fit up a Rifter and see what happens")

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I might just do that on an old pvp focused alt I rarely use just to test it first.

Guess I should have thought of that before posting on the forums eh?

Such is the way of getting old in real life I suppose........ Ugh

For testing, try Singularity (SiSi) the test server, where you can buy nearly everything including capitals for 100 ISK, and nothing you do there matters.

I saw a dead one of these ships awhile ago. Whomever killed it didn't bother to loot it.

They were filled with a bunch of the NPC trade goods. The one I looted had about 300 Pax Amarria books, and maybe about 600ish dirt. Nothing to write home about or seriously profit from. I didn't actually see the kill so I don't know if concord or anyone else got upset at whomever killed the hauler. There is also the chance that whomever killed the ship looted the good stuff, leaving just those trace NPC goods behind due to a full cargo hold.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

Concord won't get you but station guns will open fire and you'll lose faction status with whatever faction that hauler belongs to, so if it belongs to La Dai you'll lose standing with them but not you're security status overall the stuff they drop are trade goods 500 waters, 1000 protein delicacies, stuff like that, so if it undocked from a faction that manufacturers food or tech then this is more or less what you get, have somebody bring a hauler but if you can tank WH drones you should be able to tank this, also I think you might spawn npc's navy but again if you can tank WH drones you should be able to tank this, and do it as far as you can from the station guns a weaker with distance.

Excellent. I will make these traders rue the day they dared undock from the station. Pirate

QUICK AND EASY GUIDE TO NPC HAULERS:

I used to do it for fun when I was bored in HS :)

Finding the right hunting grounds:

Check the station list in your system. The best systems for NPC haulers are the systems without Duplicate stations. What I mean is, All stations have an owner and you want to go to a system where all the stations (or as many as possible) are owned by different corporations. FACTION DOES NOT MATTER! Just the corporation. If there are 5 stations, and 2 are owned by the same corp, its best to not even try to get the convoys undocking from those 2 stations.

Gathering your gear:

You will need two ships. 1-A frigate or Destroyer of your choosing. I wouldn't invest in a cruiser, as you will not see an immediate gain of your initial investment. 2- A hauler. You can not do this without a hauler. Some of the NPC haulers you pop will have a TON of stuff, some wont have much at all. You are going to get a ton of tobacco, just FYI.

Stalking your prey:

-This is where you need to start paying attention. Start to run between the stations, watching for NPC haulers to UNDOCK. -->WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ENGAGE A DOCKING HAULER YOU DID NOT STALK<-- (really, it could end very badly for you)
-Once you have confirm that the NPC hauler is in fact UNDOCKING from station, check to see who the owner is and make a note of this. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
-The Undocking sequence will actually take some time to complete, and most convoys are made up of multiple haulers and they only undock ONE AT A TIME!
-As the first hauler undocks, he will go straight out away from the station (straight from the undock) for some distance, then turn around back towards the station. This is the 'form up'. Each hauler will do this, ONE AT A TIME. Once the first one is done, the second will undock and move the same distance away from the station, then turn around.
-Once all convoy ships are undocked, they will start to form a nice neat single-file line (MAKE A NOTE THE TYPE OF HAULERS AND HOW MANY, In case there are other convoys forming at other stations at the same time). This convoy line will slow boat WAY out away from station, I have seen them get to 100km before.
-Once the convoy has formed and has slow boated way out from the station, they will simply blink out and disappear. THIS IS HOW THEY WARP!
-Now you need to start quickly warping between stations, looking for your convoy. It can sometimes take a few minutes for them to show up at their destination station. >IT WILL ALWAYS BE IN SYSTEM, THEY DO NOT GO THROUGH GATES<
-If the Destination station is NOT OWNED by the same corporation as the station they undocked from, then you are clear to engage and loot the wreck free of CONCORD. No GCC. However, you do loose standing with that corporation.

I never cease to be amazed at how some posters in these forums presume to tell others what they will or won't want, enjoy, or whatever. Just because YOU wouldn't want something doesn't mean someone else wouldn't.

I just undocked and attacked one ship in the approaching 3-ship NPC convoy. It dropped loot worth 1.2mil ISK. That might not be much to you, but I suspect most newbies would be very glad of it.

Oh, and if you got shot at by navy and station guns you were doing it wrong and shouldn't preach to others. Read one of the guides mentioned above to learn how to do it right.

Actually the commodities you get will vary from convoy to convoy. Some of the stuff will be the same, but some of it will be different depending on where you are I think.

If you make coolant as a PI product, you will be happy to know that several convoys drop large amounts of Water.

For ISK generation, I dont really recommend it for a veteran unless you are bored. For new players, its actually not that bad of an idea to get into it when you have some down time or you are bored. It will teach you to pay attention to game mechanics as well as netting you a little loot along the way.

Dont expect for than ~2 mill ISK per convoy.. Depending on what you get and what you do with it.

Exactly.
