Planet Cracking? a possibility for EVE?

Well if any of you heard of Dead space series (great horror series btw) there is a method of mining called "planet cracking" now planet cracking you have these big mining ships that basically take giant pieces of the Planet And smelt them and refine them for Ore or minierals. This method is of course only used on dead worlds so i ave to wonder would a process like this be possible in EVE?

I didn't really like dead space... it repeated itself a lot.

Zombieland taught me several important lessons, but the biggest one is to always double tap. That alone saved my ass countless times in Dead island from things that like to jump up at you.
