I'm working on a story with Vherokior characters, so would like a little cultural background. Some months ago there were some threads here on the cultural and linguistic bases of the various races and subraces. Anyone have a link? Or new ideas on what cultural milieu Vherokior derive from?

Thanks Wyke. The various threads at the link all agree that Vherokior cultural/language is Nordic derived, like the rest of the Minmatar tribes. This was kind of interesting, though:

"Vherokior are another social tribe, and are traditionally lead by women:
'Vherokior females are famous for their shrewd business acumen. They tend to possess precisely the right mixture of intelligence and intuition to excel in both commerce and industry. Many are chosen to operate businesses run by the family clan, though under the watchful eye of the clan matriarch.' (Taken from http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Vherokior)"

I'm not sure that the wiki quote implies that the tribe is lead by women, as the poster assumed. The fact that there's a clan matriarch doesn't mean that the matriarch actually leads the tribe. But the roles of Vherokior women in commerce and industry is interesting.

Most of my own studies have pointed to Vherokior being derived etymologically from Sverige and Verkopener, placing them nicely as Swedes or Varangians. And incidentally, verkopener shares etymology with the Hindu term vikrayinchu, both of which mean (salesman). And the clan logo points to Murugan, a Hindi, divine manifestation similar in sphere and influence to Loki.

The tribe is run by a male, Isardsund Urbrald, which does sound Nordic, to be sure. While females seem to be highly involved in commerce, I just don't see the run by a matriarch evidence.. Matrolineal has merit though...Lol

Further evidence for Sweden is the unique political stance the Vherokior have adapted.. Any Swedes care to comment on tatoo parlors in Sweden and region.. Blink

Another group that keeps cropping up when considering the wanderers of the Matari, are the Romani. Which also bears ties to India and Hinduism.. And is one of the five foreign languages widely spoken or recognized, in Sweden.

Voluval has obvious ties to Carnival..

It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then, and it's a poor sort of memory that only works backward.

Brilliant, Roga. The ties fit nicely indeed. The clan symbol does resemble the Murugan icons. It seems that Murugan is associated with many things, including mysticism, bravery in battle, male children, commerce and thieves. Pretty suited to the mystical, commercial, and wide-travelling Vherokior. And the combination of cultures (Nordic and Indian, with East Asian racial features) seems pretty typical of the New Eden milieu.

The Vherokior need their masks back.
