Standing loss for completing Materials for War Preparation?

Hey Guys,

my main does not get any standing losses for completing storylines which are NOT against an empire faction.
However a friend of mine spoiled his faction standing towards Gallente, Thukker and Minmatar within a couple of weeks completing missions like Materials for War Preparation. What's wrong there?

Nothing working as intended.

Just a mere fact of increase in faction standing for Amarr lets say will incure standing loss to Minmatar gall and others.

There was a faction relationship table somewhere.

Are you certain of that? If it is really the case then you are living in bliss, as everyone else does. (unless your standing is already so low that it can go no lower with the opposing faction which eh... seems to be the case for me too)

Yes it seems that for any storyline mission you get the biggest boost for the faction you run the mission for, a small boost to the faction they are friendly with, and a decrease for the other two.

Along those lines, is it every possible to maintain decently positive standings with all 4 factions at the same time? I guess in theory it seems like you could, but so far it certainly is not easy.

Quite certain. I.e. the standing for Minmatar on my main is -3.7. No transactions at all. Standing for Thukker Tribe is at -4. Also no loss this year.

Two missing bits of information - Are those your base standings or modified by diplomacy? And which faction are you running missions for?

If you are running missions with Caldari state - This is perfectly normal as your standings are already below the derived standings.

If you are running missions with the Amarr and those are your modified standings not your true standings - it also makes sense as you would be quite likely (with diplomacy III I think) already below the point where you are getting hit by the derived standings.

Okay, THAT's some helpful piece of information. :) I am running for caldari and these were non-modified standings. I took a look at the inter-faction-table and it makes perfectly sense. Someone should add this to the standing-article in the wiki.

Thanks a lot. :)

Interfaction standings and derived standings tables: http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Standing

All storyline missions are faction standing missions, which means there is always a negative derived faction standing for opposed faction standings. If you want to mission and NEVER get faction standing losses (or gains), you must avoid all regular faction based missions and all storyline missions. The only way to get faction standings without dervied standing loss is to do the Epic Arc missions. Those will reward you with faction gains but no losses.
