To the OP:

You are right in the sense that Eve is unkind to those that get smacked in the face and want to do NOTHING about it. Eve is not about your in game skills, its about how you really problem solve on an individual and group basis. This game gives you nothing...you have to take everything.

Some people are not built that way.

I've been playing for about two months now and have no complaints.

People are friendly. They sometimes shoot at me, but I tend to survive more than not now.

I hopped in a Retriever the other night and mined for a few hours. Not once did someone try to shoot at me. There were all of 7 people in Local. There are places all over high-sec with only a handful of people.

There are a set of skills in this game that you can't buy on the market. Those are the skills YOU brought to this game. Many in this forum are correct, the only way to learn is do. There are plenty of Corps that are very helpful and willing to teach the right person.
don't think you have to station tank 6 months to play. I was doing level 4 missions with people at 8 weeks, I know you can. Chat in local, You would be surprised how many helpful people are out there. Good luck.

What a great thread, probably people from some of the largest alliances all giving the positives, and good encouragement.

If only that translated to something graspable to a new player without a clue.

Someone did already mention this, never be in a corp with the word miner in it, its like painting a target on yourself.

I missed if anyone pointed out that the corp and alliance you are in are about the same age as you. For an industrial player in particular, this is a most difficult start. Even more experienced players often don't prepare for war.

One nice thing about learning PvP -- even defensively -- and aggression mechanics is that even while newish, I was rarely stationed camped, had insta-undocks and jump clones and pretty much went on about my merry way (with an eye on local) in-game. No, often, you can't mine in a regular belt, but there are other ways to make money.

I think Google will provide links covering these and other topics for individuals and corps looking to survive war decs.

Otherwise, If you join a corp such as Eve University (E-Uni), you'll not only have numbers and veteran players to benefit from, you'll have new players to connect with and options. You'll also be ahead of the game curve for new players in a relatively short time and be able to find fun while you learn practical skills.

The game, however, doesn't hold your hand or point the way. That part is up to you.

One odd practice in Eve Online is the uncanny insistance of new players to start their own corporations before they learn to fly a frigate properly and understand even the most basic nuances of the game.

oh!... Shocked ... well... there's yer problem.

It has nothing to do with people not wanting new players, it has everything to do with you trying to win the Olympic gold medal in cycling, but you haven't even got your training wheels off the kiddie bike.

I'm surprised you have lasted 8 weeks to be honest.

Here is some advice.

Create an alt, put your alt as the CEO , leave your corp with your main and start this game over with some more realistic ambitions.

Starting a corporation in this game (or any other aka guild) is just ridiculously naïve. Go out there, make some friends, some contacts. Find some people that are like minded and share some of your goals and learn to play the bloody game before you start with an ambition like running your own corp.

Not trying to smack talk you here, but you can't really expect anyone to take you seriously. You gotta learn to crawl before you learn to walk.

The reality of Eve is that, if you don't love it like it is today, you should probobly go ahead and unsub.

This cracks me up everytime someone writes this. The only players your going to have a fair fight against is other players with the same low SP you have. When someone says that they are setting you up to fail which will eventually lead to you quiting.


I love how hard EVE is for new players it weeds out the idiots and dumba$$s who dont deserve to play this great game. But Hey atleast you tried now give me your $hit.

Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.

From now on? When was eve advertised as something other than "dark, harsh universe where noone is save anywhere"? Heck, eve is more newbie friendly than ever. Perhaps it simply isn't the game you're looking for. But that doesn't mean we don't want new players. We just want players that would appreciate the game for what it is and not try to make it something completely different.
