I've heard people talk about their probe strength in terms of finding ships with a low signature radius and pinning down valuable anomalies, but where does this number they come up with come from?

It's not on the fitting screen and I don't see something else in EFT describing it. So how do I determine if I have X skills with Y implants that I am scanning at certain % of maximum possible ability.

I ask because I've gone all out on an alt with equipment, implants and skills and a covert ops ship and I want to see if I am nearly at 100% to as good as it can be.

Bring up the fitting screen and pull up the probe info from there. It will show your probe strength after skills.

YES! Thank you, sir!

This is the best tip I've got outside of using the Shift and Alt key for probes. It looks like my alt is paying off too because he has a specifically fitted Base Sensor Strength of 184.4 compared to my main's everyday 62.9 rating. Rock on!

You will be at maximum if you use/have:

Astrometrics (skill)
lvl5, higher level = more probes deployed
Astrometric Pinpointing (skill)
-50% scan deviation @lvl5
Astrometric Rangefinding (skill)
+50% scan probe strength@lvl5

Low-grade virtue set (slot 1-6 implants)
+33.83% scan probe strength
AR-810 (slot 8 implant)
+10% scan probe strength

2x Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I (Rig)
+21% scan probe strength

Sister Combat Probe (charge)
+10% scan probe strength

Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher (module)
+10% scan probe strength

Cover op. or T3 with locust analyzer (ship)
+50% scan probe strength@lvl5 of ship/subsystem skill

Actually, you want RSS Core Scanner Probes for max strength, though the small bonus isn't worth the cost in my opinion.

Core Probes: 40
Sister Core Probes: 44
RSS Core: 45

Lol, true, was thinking more down the line of combat probing as o.p. stated that he wants to scan down ships so I've forgot to mention that little boost of RSS series for anomaly probing.
