http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2012/08/major-fibre-cable-break-causes-broadband-routing-woes-for-uk-isps.html

Quote:
Interoute are currently experiencing a network outage on the UK/Netherlands section of their Transmission network. Cause of the issue is a fibre break between UK and Netherland. OTDR completed and break location identified as a sub-sea break – cable repair ship now being arranged."

But since this started on August 26th it's no explanation why over 9000 (tm) players dropped from EVE on August 18th...

The two issues are propably not related. I don't know much about the august 18 issue though.

On August 18th the disconnects began. You might want to read this thread from the first page on, or the official response from CCP - which does include an update for August 27th but says nothing (yet) about a broken fibre cable in the north sea.

Well, from what I read there, the issue on august 18 was resolved by routing traffic over to TeliaSonera, and the issue recently seems to have been (atleast partly) on TeliaSonera's side. So I still consider these as separate incidents.

Also, TeliaSonera International Carrier has a fiber connection between London and Amsterdam according to their IP Backbone map. That doesn't mean it was that fiber cable that broke, but it might have been. I don't know.

My smokeping server is back up and running.

http://www.xi-networks.net:8005/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi?target=EveOnline

I had some problems restoring it because disk had bad sectors and Logical Volume Manager (Linux) is stupid when encoutering bad sectors.
You can check status of TQ and other eve services.

It doesn't need to as it states that there was an issue with Level3 and Global Crossing which control the fibre connections across that part of the world. It's completely out of CCP's control to be honest as as they said, it's an issue connecting between the host and server rather than a server problem itself.

I just lost a ship because Above.net denied me a reasonable connection to the EVE server in the middle of a fight. I was killed while struggling to reconnect. My errors while trying to reconnect were similar to those listed in other posts.

A trace and several pings showed failure between these two points:

================================================================
15 28 ms 37 ms 39 ms xe-2-1-0.cr2.ord2.us.above.net [64.125.26.253]
16 159 ms 152 ms * xe-4-0-0.cr2.lga5.us.above.net [64.125.31.73]

pings to 64.125.26.253 - Packets: Sent = 636, Received = 635, Lost = 1 (0% loss)

pings to 64.125.31.73 - Packets: Sent = 196, Received = 145, Lost = 51 (26% loss)
================================================================

Of course any server beyond 64.125.31.73 wouldn't be able to hold onto a connection with me, including EVE.

The episode lasted about 20 minutes up to about 18:55 GMT where EVE's ISP simply failed to allow connections to be maintained for more than a few seconds at a time. There was likely a period beforehand when the connection was poor but connections could still be maintained.

I'm rather sure this isn't the first time Above.net has confounded my connection to EVE and unfortunately won't be the last.

I would like to see this trouble go away and stay away :)

Socket Closed errors started last night for me. I was dual boxing and one account would remain online the other would drop.
Problem has continued through out the day. I dropped down to one account and am still having issues with my socket being closed.

Rebooted the machine and now it works again ...
... which makes no sense, because it was a clean boot when i started EvE before.

I thought my login problems were just my own ISP weirdness. Seems like the final authentication takes longer than it should

what, not relevant enough? or have you decided to make it personal?

From Costa rica there seems to be some problems too, tho mostly it seems to affect only Cablemodem connections and not DSL ones.
