diabeteman,

At no time has our posting meant to be an attack at your development of ECM. I applaud you and your team for a fantastic product that you offer and shared to enhance the management features of running a corporation and/or alliance.

Our development is a mixture of numerous platforms and software developed by numerous individuals, and we do plan on giving credit to those individuals for their inspiration to tweak it even more, that is being combined into one product and being hosted. I will state that ECM is a big helping aspect to our development in generating ideas that we never thought of being able to offer. That being said, we are not ones to take people's hard work and brand for ourselves.

Ok then,

Since your feature list is almost copy/pasted from ECM, I really think it is a shame to reinvent the wheel and not to merge our efforts. You could choose to provide hosted ECM instances for ISK. And contribute to the project. That's win-win for both of us : you get ISK, I get help on the project.

Quoting myself,

I just saw that you had sent me an eve-mail with almost the exact same proposal on the 17th of august. I should read my eve-mail more often but I code ECM instead. Pirate

forget what I said and let's discuss this :)

Actualyl re-inventing the wheel is a good thing, for many reasons.

1) To learn how it's done.
2) To make it better with a total new faster functioning framework.
3) Your ECM is written in python.

I hate it when people use that logic "Don't reinvent the wheel.." If the wheel was not re-invented you would not have the top notch computers you have today... or even LCD screens you would still have tube screens..

I looked through the ECM code and it is well written, clearly a bright developer. There's little reason to rewrite it unless you're doing something significantly different or have a way to make it much faster, more flexible etc that would involve a fundamental paradigm shift or dislike Django or are insane, ignorant or both and prefer PHP over Python.

I don't clame to be an expert but php would be better, because more people can configure it to their liking and it being more easier to install on a server if you don't have root etc.

I could be wrong, but that in my opinion is a good enough reason to re-invent the wheel.

HAHAHAHA Lol Thanks mate, you've enlightened my day.

@NickyYo: I wish you the best of luck and courage in doing all this in PHP. I think you will need it. I'm no PHP expert but from what I know of it, you will have a hard time implementing some specific parts of the application Smile.

I won't be coding all of it, or any of it at this rate, i am only willing to donate a day in a weekend here and there to it and that is all.

And i don't see a problem, what you achieced with java can be acheived with php. And by the way you did good on that app nice!

besides how does this post belong here and not on marketplace?

Are you mad?

He or she came off rather sarcastically, but has an extremely valid point. What you're proposing is an app that would have all kinds of sensitive information stored in it, by a complete unknown. I wouldn't trust that sort of information to an outside service either.
