Cruisers are already today very good for solo PVP and plexing in Faction Warefare. You have basically two choices, either go for turtle-tank afterburner brawler or you go for long range kiting setups.

If you want it cheap then the Caracal has the benefit that it can kite plex rats from distance without getting any damage. It is also very good against pesky frigates which have pointed you.

The armor plated neutralizing Rupture on the other site is known as solid solo PVP brawling platform. Huge buffer tank with crazy damage and neutralizers to cap out everything which comes into short range. Unfortunatelly you have to come close to the rats to kill them so that you get some damage. But you have much dps and kill them fast so that you can easily rep up.

These are just two well known options, I have seens also many other people being successful with Thoraxes, Vexors, Arbitrators, Mallers etc. Just be creative and try it out!

I'm planning on trying a 1600mm plate Navy Omen. I would try the regular Omen first but I can't seem to come up with a fit that would be able to plex and PvP.

Originally I had planned on flying the Arbitrator, but until my multitasking gets better I'm going to fly stuff with fewer active modules. I fought a Taranis with my Punisher the other day and had him beat but I was so focused on managing my cap and pulsing my neut that I didn't notice he moved out of range until he had gotten 20k away :(.

A brawling NOmen works fine against other Brawlers.

The normal Omen only works with a shield buffer tank. I doubt its good enough for Solo though.

It appears so. While no longer glacial about it CCP is now maybe molassass about it. And anyway they seem to be tone deaf to the prevalence of kiting and armor disadvantages atm. My advice is train caldari or minmatar til the devs develop an abliity to distinguish between theory and actuality.Straight

Edit- and the base omen is ****. the only amarr cruiser that is worth anything atm is the arbitrator. has been that way for a while. worth training for it though. you can even shield tank it.P drone skills are never wasted and TDs should be getting an ability to disrupt missiles as well if you can believe dev statements (again in about a year maybe Straight)

There is lot of different tactics to fight on plexes, which cruiser is best is hard to say because every tactics needs bit different properties.

Minmatar ships are quite usefull overall but maybe not the best ones for plex fights.

Caracals with light missiles are excellent for small gangs fighting in medium plexes, those have low dps but they can deal it to almost any target from range, and those can also have relatively high EHP. For cruiser 1 vs 1 those are not so good.

Exactly this!
First you need a tactics and then you should choose and fit a ship. You will not be able to always successfully engage anything comming into your plex. So you need to know what you can fight and what not. Some crusiers are very good against frigates while others are only useful against cruisers. Sometimes it is more complicated, e.g. if you a in a laser boat then you should avoid T2 minmatar frigates in general since they have very high resists... T1 frigates (especially shield tanked) on the other side melt like snow in the sun.
