Just hang around in Rookie or Help channel for any period of time and you will come to believe that everyone (and I mean really everyone) is out to scam you and kill you, they will offer to help you with your missions and fleet you, then use that to kill you, ninja-salvagers will steal your loot and then kill you and miners have a live expectancy of a few minutes before they are ganked, their minerals stolen and killed again for good measure.
Not to mention any courier contracts are all traps, you will get popped the moment you undock, no exceptions!
Of course anyone who offers you "free" money will also scam you, no exceptions either!

But that is still harmless compared to The Dreaded Low-Sec, where every system is packed full of pirates waiting just for you and there are of course massive gatecamps at every single gate that will instantly kill you as soon as you jump in.


The truth is, of course, a lot more complex, but what can you expect from hear-say stories that get themselves perpetuated and grow with each telling?
No wonder no one will take up your offer, it´s a trap, after all...



Edit: The best thing you could actually do for new players is spend some time in Help-(and if possible in Rookie)Channel and counter those myths and outright false information.
That will probably be more worth than ISK for new players, eventually.
