How can people afk mine if they constantly have to switch ore over to jet cans etc?

Do afk miners just get an industrial and set it to mine as it takes ages to fill up?

"Afk Mining" is not truely afk. Its more like mining while watching a movie or doing something else since you don't have to pay attention for long periods of time.

True afk mining using automated bots will get your account banned.

Nobody jet can mines except idiots. With the recent mining buff, you can mine for 30 solid minutes in a Retriever with tech 2 strip miners and have a full ore bay.

Of course it's not truly afk, since asteroids will get depleted. Ice mining is far more truly afk since the laser cycles are really long and the asteroids hold a lot more.

There's a few things that get roughly classified as "AFK mining".

There's mining into barge ore holds, which isn't really AFK mining - even though a modern Retriever will hold a jetcan's worth of ore, there's still a need to switch targets as asteroids get depleted, so it's at best "semi-AFK". You can dual-box and just check every so often (or whenever you hear Aura announce that an asteroid is depleted).

There's the industrial method, using a single mining laser to empty into an industrial hauler's cargohold, which is incredibly slow - and now outdated with the new Retriever and Mackinaw barges.

And then there's use of automated programs, which when detected will get your account (not just your character) banned.

You can AFK harvest ice for as long as you have cargo room (ice asteroids are so huge they rarely are completely harvested). Pre-patch that was about 20 minutes, so it is likely longer now.

They do it with ice. You don't have to switch rocks while doing it. Since latest patch you do it in a mack as to be easily identifiable as afk miner. This way people know not to bother you.

Don't jetcan min in highsec mkay?

If you want to solo-semi-afk mine in high sec, CCP just did you a huge favor and re-vamped the mid-sized barges. The retriever and mackinaw are now solid semi-afk barges for high sec. big tank and big ore bay.

If you mine in a hauler, i hope to god someone ganks you

FC, what do?

Man I wish I could get away with a lil AFK mining, considering the stupid way I do it.

I'm in a Gallente destroyer(Catalyst 400m hold) with 4 Mining Lasers 1s going at once. I fill my hold in 2 cycles so I jetcan that. No time to even go get a sandwich on that kinda turnaround.

Now if I just had the CPUs to get a tractor beam to drag around my jetcan, I'd be like the "quicker picker upper" doing yard work

Dude!?! A mining cat? Get a navitas at least. Super cheap and a much bigger hold.

and much better mining yield. Really, a navitas mines more m3/min than a destroyer. Even a destroyer with enough miners to out-mine a navitas (if it can fit them at all) will not have the capacitor to run them.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

guess I'm the biggest idiot of all time, I jetcan mine all the time but I do it in hidden spots, so if you put a little effort in to minimize the risk its amazing how much you can get done.

The capacator is running them just fine, I just didn't have the CPUs to, so I threw on some Quantum Co-Processors and and It works like a dream. I can fill my ITERON 1 In 20 mins like that.

I just have to dump my hold every 2 cycles. I mine for 60mins then go get my heavy and make 3 trips.

I wish I had a fleet to mine with.....
