Hiya

I've reached a point where I can now upgrade to a Cruiser. However, when I look at the market, all available Cruisers are ~2.7 million jumps away! Is this normal or have I got something misconfigured somewhere?

I don't think I'll have the time to go 2.7 million jumps before I die of old age in RL Blink

There aren't 2.7 million jumps... Sounds like you've got a bad autopilot configuration.

Head to Amarr or Jita and you should be able to find anything you need.

If you have your autopliot configured to avoid lowsec, or highsec for that matter, and the only possible route to your destination involves at least one jump into your avoid list it kicks out weird numbers like the ones you are seeing

EVE-Central is a good place to look for stuff on the markets, but don't rely on it completely as it can be outdated as it depends on player updates.

Major trade hubs, from largest to smallest:

* Caldari: The Forge / Jita IV Moon 4, Caldari Navy Assembly Plant

* Amarr: Domain / Amarr VIII (Oris), Emperor Family Academy

* Minmatar: Heimatar / Rens VI Moon 8, Brutor Tribe Treasury

* Gallente: Sinq Laison / Dodixie IX Moon 20, Federation Navy Assembly Plant

There are also lots of secondary trade hubs in most regions.

Try Ombey's 2D EVEMaps (PDF) for trade hubs; they all are circled in red.

There are also mission hubs, like Penirgman (Amarr), where a lot of popular level 4 agents are located. These are easier to find in-game by looking at the population statistics.

DOTLAN::EveMaps is also handy for finding things.

Be aware, the biggest hubs tend to have worse prices but more volume, especially with ships. Smaller hubs will not need a shipping upcharge or a traders profit margin tacked on. Also learn to set buy orders, higher priced if it's an especially inconvenient one to fill. (I've done buy orders for volume ammo that required the seller to bring a large minimum amount right to me several jumps from a trade hub and I paid close to low sell order price to make sure it got filled. )

Well, it turned out to be the 'do not enter systems where pod killing has recently taken place' option in the navigation settings.

I could have sworn blind that I didn't enable this (enabled by default?), but it's fixed now. The Market is working fine and I managed to get my shiny new Cruiser (well, it was shiny when I bought it. It's a bit scarred and pockmarked now Blink)
