Ubuntu woes

Trying to get EVE running on an old box that I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on (with Wine). I am a complete newbie when it comes to Linux so have spent quite a bit of time mostly being perplexed by all the linux speak.

Cutting to the chase, I've got as far as character login screen, but as soon as I select a character EVE crashes. I've tried setting up a trial account to see if I can get any further, but EVE just seems to take an age between selecting race, then bloodline and then it just stops and does nothing.

I've tried reducing all the GFX and station environment options in the settings but to no avail.

I believe I have managed to install the latest nvidia drivers for my GT7600 card, so am at a bit of a loss as how to progress - if not least because I don't know how to obtain/interpret the terminal info so I can compare my problems with those documented.

Anyway, I hope someone may be able to help.

Many thanks

As I mentioned, the issue persists despite having disabled the station environment option unticked (which is how I understand you disable the captains quarters). Under general settings i have no options under the station tab.

Basically i can only get so far as the bloodline selection before the whole thing (swirly loader thing) stops...

Any other suggestions, please?

Turn off audio.

Try loading up an account with a character already created.
