Hunting with d-scan

Using the directional scanner is a necessary skill in w-space. With some practice, it's possible to use d-scan to arrange probes around a target and resolve their ship/the site they're in with just a single scan. This will significantly reduce the amount of time your probes will be visible to them on d-scan, and increase your chance of a kill.

Please enjoy my pictorial guide to hunting in w-space using d-scan.

Won't your probes alert the prey that your looking for him? Better to mark the sites before the prey comes online right?

Probes don't warp until you hit 'scan'. Until that point, you can move the boxes around as much as you like without the probes themselves moving.

If you make sure your probes are out of d-scan range of your target to start with, and only move the boxes around in the hunt, they won't appear on d-scan until you call them in for that one scan. The best way to do this is to ensure you push your probes 18 AU above or below the system, which is the 14 AU range of d-scan plus the 4 AU in which sites can spawn around celestial objects, and hit scan after launching them. This warps them out of range until you are ready.

If you can, yes, definitely.

Sites are within 4 AU, WHs can be within 8 AU.

Personally I've never seen a WH more than 4AU from an orbital body. So an 8AU probe (4AU radius) should catch everything.

You realize that when your probes are set to "8 AU" this refers to their radius and not their diameter?

Evidence of a wormhole 6 AU from a planet.
