I have a question about Mineral Comression.

Do you put ME research onto BPOs of items you will be using for mineral comprssion?? If say for instance you saved 1000 trit on something you had researched, when you reprocess it do you make that saving still?

No, you will only ever get the base mineral amount back.

Lets say something has a base need t of 1k trit, at ME0, (and player skill "Production Efficiency" to L5), it will take you 1100 trit to build that item.

ME 20 will be 0.5% waste, or a need of 1005 units of Trit.

Trit's cheap, so "losing" 5 units of it for every 1 unit of whatever you're building is fine...

Now, you also have to take refining wastage into account. If you don't have 6.67 (or better) standing with the corporation owning the station, you will be taxed some variable amount up to 5%. So that means at 0.00 standing, you will only get back 950 (of a possible 1000) units of Trit.

oh, forgot to add, you also have refining waste...

station base is usually 50%, and the "Refining", "Refinery Efficiency" and "Scrapmetal Processing" skills will improve that. IIRC, you need Refining 5, and then some combination that adds up to '7' for the other two in order to get 0% waste (e.g. Refinery Eff 4, and Scrapmetal Processing 3)

Short answer is yes, you should do ME research on BPOs you plan on using.

Saving 1000 trit on one item is not a big deal. Saving 1000 trit on 10,000,000 items suddenly becomes a huge issue.

How much ME research you do on a BPO is entirely up to you. After a certain point, it becomes both unprofitable and a complete waste of time to do any further research.

If you're looking for for a compresion service, I already do this and have many well researched BPOs for which I have spent close to a year researching. Check out my posting here.

Like Velicitia said, if you are planning on doing this, you need to have:
a) perfect build skills
b) perfect refine skills

You need (a) to reduce build costs
You need (b) to reduce / eliminate refine costs (to get those pesky minerals out of those modules you built)

ME of a blueprint as well as your production efficiency skill decrease the waste of materials used at production time.

This can be considered waste, not extra cost to the product and are destroyed at the start of the job.
