Am I a fool? Or am I just Stubborn?

Pirates **** me off, especially when I'm playing carebear for the day. I'd be willing to bet most of you have been ransomed, at some point in time, for half of the value of your ship.

So this happened to me, and you probably know how it went:

"Give us your initial offer, we might let you go"

*Gives 0.10 ISK*

"I'll let you type that number back in"

*Gives 0.01 ISK*

"Half of the ship's value or you're dead!"

*Suggests he go have intercourse with himself*

And you can tell how that went.

Was I foolish for not wanting to pay them off? I mean, I can "Respect" pirates for enjoying the game as they see fit, bu I'd sooner self-destruct my ship, lose 400 million in implants & lose SP on a bad clone then give up to them.

Anyone else think I'm a dunce? Or is it just me...........and all my corpmates?

The pie is a tautology

Duly noted.

If I meet you out there I won't ask anything and just kill you. It's what I do anyway.

Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Most of the time, ransoms are scams anyway.

Unless you know it's a 'honourable' pirate, don't bother to pay them off.

Well there use to be a time when pirates honored ransom because that was how they made ISK to afford to be a pirate, but that was before all the Kewl Pvpers with showed up with their high sec carebear alts funneling ISK to there “pvp pirate alt”, to pad their kill boards. So now chances are if you did pay your ransom they would lol at you tell you what fool you were and blow up your ship and pod anyways. Because the kill boards are what is important to pvpers now.

So it is up to you to decide. Do you trust them to honor the ransom?

Odd thing about piracy through history. All self-respecting sovereign powers used their navies with an infusion of cash to descend up on them and rout them like penicillin after a staph infection.

Odd thing about EVE sovereignty. The sovereigns here like to argue about who's in charge of whom, and let half-a$$ed psuedo-security suffice to secure their economy and territory. Of course, the brain children behind this bizarre approach are the game designers who know more about playing space ship in daddy's garage, than how to construct a truly dynamic hierarchy of power.

It's a lot like a person who never bothered to remove the undersized spare tire from their sports car after that unfortunate flat. It's round. So what if the car rocks a little? Never mind how ******** it looks. I like it.

I'll be opening a drool cup concession in Reykjavik shortly.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

I always thought EvE piracy is more akin to Somalian piracy and not the high seas, Skull'n'Bones stuff.

Personally I think you're a stubborn fool who's foolishly stubborn. That's my take. That said, I think it's mostly a fools game to pay ransom to any kind of thug (though I might make exceptions for pirates who manage to thoroughly entertain me, by at a minumum talking like a pirate).

So what your saying is....

You were in low sec alone.
Without a scout.
You were unprepared/unable to defend yourself.

And you were not expecting pirates?

Does this about sum up your experience?
Why is it people always blame the PVP'ers and not themselves for putting themselves in that position in the first place.

Pretty much this..

Anyway what do you want, to go through low-sec unharmed and untouchable?

Ugh.. how infuriating; I just wrote a ridiculously long story, pressed "post" and nothing was sent.

I don't have the drive to rewrite it again.. gah.

While getting caught with your pants down might just be you having a bad day, paying ransom to some idiot that will just blow you up anyway is pure stupid.

Tell them you wouldn't give them the sweat off your huevos and die like a man.

So you think it's better to pay them to blow you up?

You're going to lose it anyway, why compound your embarrassment ?

Eject and run away.

Than when you are far enough away taunt them, this will result in hurt feelings and perhaps even tears. Pirates are just bullies with Mommy complexes be sure.

As TunDraGon Public Affairs Manager I have the following statement for you people:

Should you get ransommed by a TDG pilot you have our guarantee that you will be freed upon paying.

Should you get killed after paying this ransom you will be reimbursed.

TDG-Pilots that do not honour ransoms will be kicked.

I never pay a ransom. If most pirates were honorable and intelegent I might feel differently. Let them destroy my ship and kill my pod if they can. If they do good for them if not I just buy a new ship and call it the cost of doing buisness. BTW if they do take out a clone with expensive implants I must ask myself this question "Why the hell was I in that area without using a clean jump clone?"

In truth however I feel piracy in EVE has devolved into griefers who gank once they become bored with the griefing game and perhaps have even been paid off. Most stories of ransom go like this "pirates" capture target ship and demands ransom. Ransom gets paid then pirate kills ship anyway. The only thing the pilot who was being held learns is not noly do I lose my isk paid for ransom but my ship and most likely pod as well. Thus he has learned not to pay ransoms.

A true pirate would never destroy a ship once a ransom has been paid they would release it so that the next time they caught that same pilot they could demand another ransom and be paid agian. Ransoming will only become profitable and more honorable once ransoms are honored and folks learn that if I pay I only lose my isk but if I don't I will lose my ship and active clone. The alternative to paying the ransom needs to be more bearable than not paying it and then the isk will flow from the carebears (like me) to the pirates.
