This will propably turn in to "Majority ownership will propably be sold to EA or Activision in the future." within a few pages.

Sounds like the existing investors decided to inject capital to pay the bank loan off (rather than roll it over) which was due about now?

Makes sense as the bank had first claim on assets, now the existing investors have that right.

OMG CCP IS BEING BOUGHT OUT BY EA AND BLIZZARD-ACTIVISION?!

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

Ding! I think we have a winner.

The launch is also coming after the disappointing performance of the highly anticipated MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. Reid points to The Old Republic as a sign that “players by-and-large are consuming the content of triple-A games faster than anybody is able to develop them.”

No, it means people don't want to play the same game copy and pasted with a new title and skins, which is what Derp Wars was, basically WoW with Star Herp overlay.

What keeps the customers coming back? A unique IP and a unique game.

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

They raised $20m for Dust? And they want me to Beta test it for them for free?

I DON'T THINK SO TIM.

The part about the finances putting them in a position to offer an IPO should mean that it would allow them to retain majority shares should they decide to go public.

As long as they keep doing what they're doing, don't over extend themselves, and continue to make a profit; while retaining the majority shares, than an IPO would be a good thing for them and us.

I don't doubt that if Dust does well they won't start taking steps to get an IPO out there. I personally am all for seeing CCP grow, I'd really like to see them get a development staff that is able to actually evolve the game in a timely fashion.

If they did offer an IPO at some point, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase some stock myself. I really don't see CCP doing anything but growing. For a company making their first console game, and first shooter, Dust is actually pretty impressive and shows a lot of competence.

I know I am not alone in this, but I would love to get my hands on CCP's books.
66M in annual revenue, and they just had an additional infusion of 20M in convertible bonds.

What rate are they paying on those bonds?
What percentage of the share base will that 20M buy if they are all converted?
Why did they do this? Are they that strapped for cash that they need 20 M to promote Dust and build up internal infrastructure?

So they went to institutional investors. Now the question is, are they banks, or just some private investment houses?
I would think investment houses, since most banks are not in the business of holding stock (assuming the bonds are converted) in companies, especially video games companies.

From reading this article, and the comments for "possibly" preparing for an IPO, it looks like CCP is starting down the slippery slope to public ownership.

If that happens, this game will indeed be forced to go mainstream.

The full quote from the article

"Reid says the funding will allow CCP to prepare for an IPO. The company doesn’t have any immediate plans to go public, but he says the money “allows us is to do some of the things you need to do for IPO preparedness,” such as building greater redundancy into its computer systems, so that it’s ready to go public when and if the time is right."

So not going public now, but maybe at some time in the future.

Can you imagine the tax and legal issues with "PLEX for stock"? We'll never see that!
