Keep telling yourself that.

I'd rather pay a set amount per month for all the content in a game than play the game for free and have to throw chunks of cash sporadically for specific content. Mind you, I don't believe in supporting segregated content where useless fluff gets more priority from the devs than actual gameplay because the fluff is what brings the money and is, therefore, the smarter thing to manage time for.

It's thinking like that, that is holding us back. No one is saying that you have to pay for it. Just let others pay heaps of cash in the store and you can play for free. The idea of segregated content is something I haven't heard anyone at CCP talking about.

Don't spend too much time thinking about the negative of everything will you?

Have you seen that game? I wouldn't play it even if you'd pay me for it...

wait, LoL as in League of Legends? omg, how, could Dust be anything like that shitstain called a game.
or you mean as in, buy new character graphics?

Yea LoL. Don't include pay to win but provide means to unlock things through play or by paying. The only thing you can't earn from playing are character skins.

Doesnt really matter what you think about the game but it's a tried and tested model.

Edit- to all the would be business men in here, please tell us more about your extensive experience in fps video game marketing and business strategy. I'm sure ccp would love to hear your input on whatever they've missed.

Basically you're full **** (I mean have you even tried the beta?). CCP seem to know what they're doing. Give them a ******* break, they might even surprise you.

The same thing could be said about TF2 and its hats yet Valve seem to be doing quite well.

The console gamer is an entirely different animal and DUST is a completely different game. They won't be idling/chatting in trade servers showing off their rares, feeling pressure to buy keys. They'll download a free game when they're bored, play and then put down the controller and possibly never come back.

Which makes any impact people with 0 investment have on a the sandbox really questionable.

Please stop.

You do not pay for the right to tell CCP what to do with the money they make. You didn't buy stock, get over yourself.

I am more interested in how do we exploit the dustbunnies, only to annihilate them afterwards?

Good point Professor Christy, we are planning to release WiS accordingly so that your little Dust-hookers have an appropriate working environment.

I frankly I am a little disappointed that we can't suicide gank the dust bunnies by crashing our ships into them on the ground.

Now that would look as funny as hell, you are happily killing people in Dust and the next thing you know a 1.4 KM long mach for example crashes head first into the ground, killing most of your team mates Big smile

When will CCP hire a decent ad writer?

From the Dust page linked in OP:
"In DUST 514 players earn ISK, an in-game currency, by winning battles, doing missions and more. Additionally, players can buy Aurum through the PSN Store. Players looking to expand their experience can spend either ISK or Aurum on a variety of microtransaction purchases. That said, DUST 514 is not a pay-to-win game. Players purchasing items with Aurum will not result in an unfair advantage over players who only spend ISK, the in-game earned currency."

There's a lot of clunky, awkward text there, but one of the standouts is "that said..." I literally facepalmed when I saw that. You're selling a game to future Dusty's, not defending microtransactions from stEVE's (hey, a new sub goal for my eve play: get everyone to use Dusty and stEVE). Seriously, hire someone good NOW, before its too late.

OP is right, we get screwed, we subsidized development and now F2P model - isn't socialism wonderful!

Now, I and most of my PVP corpmates survive EvE monotony with idiotic chat in TS and alt tabbing to other games (Minecraft, World of Tanks, DayZ, etc.). Too bad I can't alt tab to Dust :-(

Well our subs are not enough....breaking news.

"CCP Games, the Iceland-headquartered company behind the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game EVE Online, says it has raised $20 million in new funding."

So now, like classic socialist, they not only soak the rich (EvE subscribers), to pay for welfare recipients (F2P Dust), they now go into deficit mode by borrowing AGAINST EvE subscribers future revenue!

Because the financials is only half the point, and it is the half that hardly matters.

The other half is our sandbox will contain players with 0 investment, from a culture of 0 investment, who are totally transient.

We have a culture when you can't even change your name because we want people to have to live with the consequences of thier actions, in comes players with no history, no investment.
