So basically our subs are paying for the development of DUST, even after it's release?

EDIT: DUST Free Page

Not if the "Dusties" need to pay to purchase the game in the first place. That's how shooter games typically are.

DUST will be using a microtransaction system to aid in the development and funding for DUST. This is PSN's first free to play major multiplayer online furistic first person shooter that uses a microtransaction system. I'm quite psyched to see how this will all work out.

It's completely F2P, they're relying on PS3 people to use a cash shop.

Except the shop doesn't sell any item that would give advantage, only vanity stuff. It is not going to be running in the black, we are subsidizing a playstation game.

The same thing could be said about TF2 and its hats yet Valve seem to be doing quite well.

The console gamer is an entirely different animal and DUST is a completely different game. They won't be idling/chatting in trade servers showing off their rares, feeling pressure to buy keys. They'll download a free game when they're bored, play and then put down the controller and possibly never come back.

MMO people always paid for extras, to China sweatshop farmers, now people pay for extras to game developers and allow others to play for free, resulting in a vibrant world full of players ... and people complain.

Clueless is clueless.

Which makes any impact people with 0 investment have on a the sandbox really questionable.

I don't want a welfare game that anybody can play.
I want a limited playerbase, why else would I be playing EVE?

Console gamers will probably be invested into DUST for the maximum period of a single Call Of Duty iteration, if the game is great in the first place. Lackluster console games die within a few months. We'll see where DUST ends up.

Actually most MMO people don't pay for extras, that is just what the pay to win people tell themselves so they don't feel like they have been foolish with their money.
