Solo pvp existed.

This is possibly one of the worst threads in the history of these forums.  - CCP Falcon

Not a "vet" by most peoples' reckoning, but far from newb, soooo:

Back in my day:

Salvage was worth something.

L4 missions were hard (aggro'ing the room was not something you did unless you wanted to pull some insurance-fraud with a bare chassisBlink). Saying you could solo "Enemies Abound 5/5" in a Vargur --and having a Vargur, for that matter-- put you out as a cut above.

Insurance-fraud for high-skilled industrialists with nicely-researched BPOsTwisted (Anyone remember the few days before the nerf on the Jita 4/4 undock?)

People ratted in losec belts.

Rigs were one size, and very, very expensive, only the very rich used them, and only on at least BCs (rare), BS, or T2 variants, which they usually would never risk in PvP, because losing them would genuinely hurt. (ISK 1bn wasn't the new million then, to put it mildly).

No wormholes or Tech III.

Probing was much different, and much harder.

"Free-Form" contracts.

The community in general was much smarter, much more aware, and much more self-reliant. And infinitely less whiny and self-entitled. Because it was often CCP who were first to tell that ilk to "HTFU or give me your stuffs" when they whined.

Forum-trolling was an art, and proper trolls were worthy of respect instead of [/facepalm]

People didn't start whinge-jihads to nerf things into uselessness just because they didn't like them. And those that did got properly savaged in the forums.

The forums actually worked.

"WiS/Ambulation" was a vision that everyone could respect and be inspired by, not a bitterly ironic/cynical curse.

Space --yes, even hisec-- felt properly huge.

"Our logs, they show nothing."

E:

Yes, my sunglasses are actually rose-coloured (you just have to turn a little to the right), but this community has severely deteriorated, especially in the last year/year-odd.

Ni.

There were no rigs/salvage.

There still were no salvage drones.

One guy in the corp had a Covetor and he was BADASS.

T2 was freaking expensive as hell. Not cheaper than Meta 4.

Back in the day:

1) I GCC'd in high sec accidentally by shooting a wreck instead of salvaging it, there were no warning messages for such stupidity.

2) I jumped into a high sec system with GCC from low sec thinking it was another low sec system, see above explanation.

3) I killed many freighters who accidentally set their AP to travel through low sec and didn't realize the mistake until long after they were podded.

4) I flew BC's without rigs because rigs cost several times more than the rest of the ship and fittings combined.

5) I still own an anathema with large probing rigs.

6) I had my own personal carrier and that made me the envy of nearly all of eve, people shat themselves when I bought a second.

7) People used vagabonds instead of cynabals, cynabals were crap.

8) I ran lvl4's in low sec in a t2 fit BS with nothing but reds in local and this was considered a reasonable thing to do.

9) A Plex cost 200M isk.

10) 200M isk was a lot of isk.

11) You could count the number of titans and motherships in game on one hand.

12) Pods had a delicious squish sound when they died.

13) Snowballs and launchers every Christmas.

14) I saw a machariel orbiting a station at over 10km/s.

15) My hurricane then was faster than your dramiel today.

16) an 80 man fleet was big enough to make eve news.

17) My stealth bomber was ideally suited to ninja alphaing careless frigates.

18) I went on a freighter escort mission through low/null sec.

Fireworks and snowballs are great, but what I really want is a corpse launcher.

... we had some issues with boot.ini

... almost nobody had rigs and they were all large

... we had an outdated, yet functional and features "rich" forum.

... being a 0.0 seccer did not immediately recall: "blueball blobber"

... when one of the 5 or so titans moved, the news went "oooooh.... aaaaahhhh".

... guys like Kil2 were recording epic PvP videos attracting new players to such an awesome game and the same videos still do that.

ships were shiny and EVE was weird(which is what pulled me into the game in the first place).

characters started with an actually acceptable sum of skillpoints and list of skills.

what else...? umm...

some modules required their skill at level 5 and not 4 or 3

new player training tutorials made use of a whole training complex in space instead of a single area with a sad and lonely rat.

rats in training complexes used to drop items that gave newbies some isk when sold.

rookie ships had a damage control instead of a single ****** piece of tritanium.

Minmatar ships had actual rust, and if you looked hard enough you could see bits falling off of em. Lol

you could actually tell the attributes of your character prior to completion of the character creation.

also, you could give your character a few more attribute points.

the introduction video was actually interesting and told you of the story. (there was a time when I used to check the 'play introduction at next login' checkbox every single day)

no ships and/or modules had a preview button.

Seeing more than 5000 players logged in was a record.

I could travel through hisec and half the systems would be empty, and the roid belts would be huge.
