EVE will only start to loose significant chunks of subscribers when their competion manages to lauch a MMORPG based on Internet Spaceships. As far as I know there isn't a single game under development that resembles EVE.

If this ever makes it out of vapour-ware, then EVE may well be obsoloete'ed.

And probably right freaking now, too.

Real-time fighting ( twitch based ): Most MMOs today use a semi-turn based, timed "cooldown" approach to combat. In Infinity, you are directly controlling your ships movements and weaponry in a twitch-based way, targeting your every movement. Your own skills and dexterity as a player make the difference, not a list of stats or skills on your character sheet!

that alone got me

I think EVE players will largely be disappointed with twitch based combat. I haven't played the Infinity combat demo but if its anything like X3 or Freespace 2 it'll probably be boring. In both of those games dogfights just consisted of getting into tight turn wars spraying all your guns all the time until your crosshairs connected and you scored a hit at which point the enemy would usually hit their after burner and you'd have to repeat. I don't see the appeal. Capital Ships in X3 are so unwieldy and boring to fly you're better off just letting the AI handle it so its not a snoozefest.
