Honesty (Or: Why Mixed Metaphor is no longer a thing)

So I've always considered myself to be a fairly good person, even if my actions weren't always up to the standard I held myself to, or indeed even the standard I held others to. I have considered that I was in a position to pass judgement on the conduct of others, and one of the things I've criticised a fair amount of capsuleers in New Eden for at one point or another (and, don't get me wrong, will likely continue to do so in the future) is that they can't be honest. Sometimes they can't be honest with other people. That is a serious problem with capsuleers - inability to be honest with others. More egregiously, however, is when people can't be honest with themselves. This is what tends to be the bigger problem, and this is what I tend to criticise more deeply. However, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, and I have not been honest with myself.

Mixed Metaphor is dead. Mixed Metaphor has been dead, and for a considerable amount of time as well.

And I killed it.

Mixed Metaphor used to be a serious power in the FDU, back in our hayday. We were powerful enough that influential figures felt threatened enough to hire mercenaries against us, and we were competent enough to hold our own against enemies three times our size. We had a strong core group of good pilots. We fought good fights, bonded and shared many happy moments together. Then I made some poor decisions. There were arguments, and there were defeats. The corp fractured, and I didn't take the steps that were neccessary to keep it together. We all went our seperate ways, and I've been pretending for the better part of four years that I can bring the corporation back. I can't, and the pretense that I could has held me back from doing something more productive with my life.

In truth, it might be a relief to get out from underneath the umbrella of this corporation. I can finally stop worrying about recruitment, and management, and all the stupid things that I pretend that I need to do when I'm running a corporation that's really just a shell.

I will need something new to do, though. Can't just sit around in Aliastra forever.

Are you qualified to helm an Ishtar, Monsieur Ixiris? Or maybe a Tech level 3 modular cruiser?

One spec'ced for armed exploration/reconnaissance in...aaahhh..."not-so-safe" places;

Maybe something along the lines of this (GalNet link).

You might be amazed at how it can help broaden your perspective by making our so-fair cluster feel truly huge again --just like it did when we gingerly walked our first rookie-frigates out the undock-portal that first time, almost-- and how that broadening can make your whole outlook and mindset much healthier.

(Not to mention that "earning your living" in losec in a ship not kitted-out for capsuleer vs. capsuleer combat is going to keep you sharp, if nothing else...There's Nasty People(TM) out there, and they will probably be out to get you, after all.)

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

I commend your ability to self-analyze and reflect upon the past constructively and objectively. Perhaps there are brighter days ahead of you than behind you, Mister Ixiris.

If you were a Amarr, I would recommend you to one of our recruiters because this is truly thoughtful. I wounder would will happen to one such as your self in the future because true people and those who are on the path to redemption must come to self realization before they can be saved. If you would be welcome for some one to try to convert you to our religion and the one God please contact me.

I really admire your desire to convert like everyone and courage to work with any material. But, you know, some very rare things are better left in a thrash can. For everyone's sake.

Now when I get to talking about people who can't be honest with either themselves or other people... Lol

Thank you, Kim, for reminding me that no matter how many mistakes I make, there'll always be some levels of ignominy to which I won't ever sink. Like, for example, being you, in case you didn't get the subtle implication I was making right there.

Some friendly advice, then:

Find a productive use for your time. What you are attempting to do right now is not one of those.

Brother Hashur,

In an attempt to assist you in understanding what Mister Ixiris is trying to politely relay to you, he is a well-known and staunch opponent to the concepts of God and religion.

As I have stated time and again, there is no point in preaching to those whom have closed their eyes and ears and clenched their fists.

While I find the manner in which you stated it vain and supercilious, you are nonetheless correct.

It was not intended to be supercilious, Mister Ixiris. It is inherently vain to assume you possess the truth, which I do. So I will not deny vanity on my part.

However, there was no disdain meant in my words. I was merely expressing the futility of preaching to someone who has dedicated themselves against the message being preached. It would be equally futile for you to preach to me regarding the non-existence of God.
