Your ship's name?

I tend to name them after mythical beings that somehow have something in common with the ship (or how I use it anyway).

So most of my droneboats are named for multiheaded creatures. I totally ignore actual existing ship names when picking names though. So I have an Ishkur named Cerberus, which might confuse some people (always a nice bonus)...

Once one gets blown up I start numbering them using Roman numerals.

Let's see, from the current assortment of ships:

Raven, CNR - Odin, Thor
Merlins - Morgan Le Fay, Yaga Baba
Harpy - Blarpy
Drakes - Rhaegal, Viserion, Drogon
Rokh - Rammington
Tengu - Raging Queen
Noctis - Valkyrie-A
Blackbird - Don Chute
Mammoth - Baitmobile
Ferox - Not a Drake
Heron - Starchild
Coercer - Firebird

Well, you get the general idea. I usually make up the name when buying the ship, but a few have predetermined name types. For instance, a Noctis is always Valkyrie, because like the mythological women, they too scatter the battlefield for fallen warriors. The -A is a reminder, as I lost my original Noctis to sheer stupidity (basically salvaging a mission before the last spawn :D)

Next on the list of fixed names will be my alt's Retriever - I lost it yesterday in the middle of the war while I was watching Franklin and Bash and forgot to check the scout, it might end up as something like "Lawyered" or "Scoutless" or perhaps the "AFK mobile". We'll see :D

Usually something aggressive, or visceral, or virile, not unlike Halete.

For instance, my Wolf is called Dire B!tch, a tongue-in-cheek double entendre.

I RP Amarr like a girl (amirite?) when it comes to ship names.

I name all the ships hulls uniquely, but just rename the ship when it gets blown up (ship names were always traditionally recycled when the ship was sunk, often carrying it's naval traditions with it.)

All my names are religious based, tbh I could have a code generator that makes a combination of the following :

  1. Lord's/Emperess'/Divine/Glorious/Holy/His/God's
  2. Wrath/Vengeance/Retribution/Judgement/Glory/Work/Justice

Occasionally I'll have the odd other name. Like I have a Drake called The Relentless after a semi-crap Warhammer 40K novel that for some reason I liked.

usually gods and weapons, kinda depending on ships purpose
mining burst = 'hathor" egyptian goddess of the harvest
jags = "bastet" egyptian cat goddess
wolves = "ophois" egyptian wolf god
thrasher = "gungnir" spear of odin
vagabond = "kusanagi" famed japanese katana
prowler = "fharlanghn" the f.r. god of travels
etc

Thus Spake the Frigate Goddess!

Hehe, I named one of my Bestowers "SS Edmund Fitzgerald", just popped in my head as the thing to do.

When I got my Impel recently, I googled "Famous Blockade Runners" and named it USS Britannia (hmm, maybe that one should be HMS). I've got an Osprey named HMS Hood, after the ill-fated battlecruiser sunk by the Bismark. I try to keep my ship names within the class and such, but for the most part I name them after US or British ships of the 20th Century. If I ever decide to fly a carrier, I think I'll name that one USS Ronald Reagan.

I have a system where each ship/fit has a name, and I have them numbered. My Enyo is called Firelance I for example. It gives me a sense of achievement when one of my ships accumulates a large number of kills before dying, because I can tally them easily. I have a dual-rep Incursus called Lance 5 which is doing well right now.

Someone.
