Generally, I name them something that loosely describes their purpose, characteristics, or hull name, yet obscures it a little and sounds enough like a generic name for a ship, so that someone using Dscan can't figure out what I'm up to from it.

Usually preceded by MSS, for Minmatar Space Ship.

Hence, the Happy Little Narwhal for my Orca, the MSS Angus for my Mammoth (because it flies like a cow), my maelstrom is the MSS Roundhouse because it smashes things with an almighty punch, and any Rupture is use is called the MSS Hernia.

For my alt, I just give them generic female names. Shirley. Jennifer. Mary.

Most of the time I use names that have a nice sound to it and have some sort of meaning to the role I use them for (or the ship itself, as in shape, form). This of course entirely in my own perception.
And they have to be unique. No ship of mine ever has the the same name. If a ship is lost, the replacement gets a new and unique name.

examples are (with loose translations):

Grauwe Regenvlaag (Gray (Grim) Rain gust)
Gure Stormwind (Bleak Storm)
Nooitgeweest (Never Been)
Rammelbak (old clunky machine, ramshackle)

Among others....

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

All my freighters and JFs are named Ice Cream Truck. All combat ships are named Rawr, only because I'm lazy and not creative when it comes to naming them.

Well, I have a system with my ship-naming, like everyone else...... as my name implies, I tend to be as vulgar as possible, all the time, 24/7..... even in-game Blink

Examples....

My SFI's usuall get named ********
Drakes go as **** ******
BS's for POS bashing go as **** *******
And my lovely gank-thrashers go as Chum Guzzler

SWEET, CCP censored all but 1 of my listed ship names, do I win a prize?

I love Ginga Eiyu Densetsu. Big supply of names from that series.

I thought about naming my Dom the "Rick Dom", but I think only a few of us would get the reference, especially if something as common as Poe's Raven is missed by some here.

I give all my ships names with Greek characters because I'm cool like that.

Atron - λωποδύτης (bandit)
Myrmidon - μυρμιδών (the same thing basically)
Noctis - ρακοσυλλέκτης (garbage collector)
Vexor - λεγεώνα (means legion, cause you know, drones)

Not very imaginative...

I just renamed my favorite ship, a (series of ships, rather, because they explode quite often :3) Taranis. Previously, they were called "Enraged Anger", but now they're named "Tied-Up Sexkitty", because it's feisty and dangerous even when webbed and scrammed -- and it wants to be tackled, MWDing right in. :3

My Drake is named "Pfewwhooshhhh!" because it's the sound that it makes when I violence things with it. ^_^

Still trying to think of wolf and jag names...open for suggestions...
