EvE Voice – Client Freezes when pushing ESC after recently speaking in Eve Voice.

Hey Folks,

Just wondering if anyone else can confirm this bug I have found?

Whilst in a fleet and using EvE Voice I have encountered a bug where the Eve client freezes if you push ‘Esc’ and the last menu you have opened was ‘Audio & Chat’. Now this only occurs if you have been speaking in Eve voice and then push ‘Esc’ and the amount of time your system freezes is directly linked to length of time you have been speaking.

For Example:

If I speak for 10 seconds and then push ‘Esc’ the client will freeze for a number of seconds. Again if you speak for 30 seconds and then hit ‘Esc’ the client will freeze for noticibly longer. This will continue to the point the client will actually crash. Cry

I have asked several corp mates to try this and they have all reported the same results as above so I thought my next step was here to see if the community could help and test this out too.

Thanks for helping.

Aha! Someone else has the same issue as myself then.

There has been a few times recently where I have been involved in fleets, most importantly here, using Eve Chat, where the Eve client would freeze when I hit the escape (Esc) key to bring up the menu to log myself out. The Esc menu would pop up but the client would freeze for an indeterminate length of time, potentially leaving my ship to fend for itself while the client sorted itself out. However, I would still be hearing those still in the fleet chatting away. From my experience, the freeze would last from 10+ seconds to beyond 1 minute before I was able to interact with the eve client again.

To be honest, I never really noticed what menu I had selected in the Esc menu or linked the freeze to how long I had been chatting in fleet prior to hitting the Esc key. I had assumed it was an issue with my computer to be honest. But I am going to try the steps you have described to try and replicate this issue and see if it is something that can be manually tripped OR if it is a random issue.

Ill report back with an update when I get a chance to try this.

Right I gave this a try last night, based on the guide you provided in the OP, I can confirm that I can recreate the steps to trip this bug.

So, first of all, I set up a fleet with myself and joined the fleet chat channel. I pressed my key to talk (in this instance Right Alt) and started gabbing to myself for about 5 seconds then pressed the Esc key to access the games configuration menu. The menu popped up but the client did not freeze. However, I noticed that the configuration menu did not open up with the 'Audio & Chat' tab in focus as you suggested.

So, before closing the configuration menu down, I opened the 'Audio & Chat' menu, so it was the last tab I viewed and pressed the Esc key to close the configuration menu. Again, in fleet chat, I pressed my key to talk and spoke down the channel for 5 seconds. Immediately after, I hit the Esc key to access the configuration menu and it seems I triggered the bug. As you said, the client froze for a good 10 seconds or so while sitting in the 'Audio & Chat' menu (I'm roughly guessing the period, I didn't time the freeze). Then, after the 10 seconds or so, I was able to interact with the Eve Client as normal as if nothing had happened.

I tried to replicate it a second time. This time I held the chat channel open for longer, a good 10-15 seconds this time, then I hit the Esc key to access the configuration menu. Again, the client froze with the 'Audio & Chat' menu being the default tab it opened with. This time the freeze lasted a good bit longer than my first attempt, probably 20+ seconds, possibly longer. Eventually control was re-established and I could interact with the client as normal.

I then tried it a third time with very similar results, confirming your findings that the freeze time is directly proportional to the length of time the chat channel was held open for.

Given how easy this 'bug' is triggered I'm surprised no-one else seems to have picked up on it. Also, I recognise this isn't actually game breaking, per say, but I can see the potential harm it could have on a player if they get caught out with this during a heated engagement or even accidentally hitting the Esc key instead of F1 during an engagement only to have your client freeze like this for an indeterminate length of time.

I'm Thinking this should be escalated as a bug.

Thanks for the reponse Speedy. I have raised a bug report over a month ago but have not had any kind of response so I have made this post on the forums to try and attract a Dev response. To no avail it would appear.Sad
