To be fair though, it should be noted that vast majority of "new" EVE subscriptions are alt accounts. You wont see many newbies around, not for long anyway.

Nah, there are a lot of newbies around all the time. People subscribe, faff around for a month seeing if they like it, then leave or don't. Probably 90% of them decide it's not for them and head out, but in the meantime they're there sharing your rookie pain.

The upside of the high attrition rate is that, since the game is aimed at less-popular MMO elements, the people that stay tend to stay a long, long time. After all, it's not like another game copying it is likely to come along and take players, they're all to busy ripping off WoW.

^ This is mainly the reason why EVE isn't the biggest MMO.

EVE is a more mature MMO. It asks for some self sufficient players who can think for them self and don't mind doing some research.

Lots of new players come to EVE expecting another WoW clone in space. That's not EVE and they will find out EVE is about long term goals, setting your own goals, not being held by your hand at any time and in some cases say it's 'unfair' [heads up, nothing in EVE is fair].

Those that stick around like that type of game. Where mistakes matter, where actions have consequences and where every time you die or loose ISK it's cause YOU did something wrong.

If you like that game play, then EVE is certainly worth it. And unlike you hear left, right and centre, EVE is not dying. Actually EVE has been growing every single year, sure people leave, but people also join daily [true, some are alts, some are alts of alts and some are 4th, 5th, ...th accounts].

Been playing EVE for just over 2 years now, stopped playing from time to time but nothing more then just small breaks, and still love it. As long as EVE stays alive and I can find the time and money to pay for my subs I will keep playing the game.
