For the last several decades people have been claiming that PCs and PC games were dying. Even back to the 80s people were claiming PCs were just a fad that no one could afford one let alone want one.

PC will never die. Not aslong as there are console players to whom we must prove our supremacy!

Problem is the only thing left I use my PC for is work and EvE, rest is on my phone or iPad, when this PC dies I will just get a console and that will be the end of the PC era that started with my first IBM XT.

I don't own a TV, Consol or a Desktop.

I just have a laptop and when it gets to old I will replace it with a better laptop.

I play EVE (The only game I play) and watch all my TV and even read books on it..

Can't think of a reason to own anything else.

**** the console-kiddies.

Yeah, I said it.

Because they are shallow, weak, easily -led by shiny, and everything else that a proper old-school PC gamer is not, and their toxic, pay-to-win slime-dripping blight of a mentality makes me ill.

And most of all:

Because **** them, that's why.

That is all.

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

Gaming on PC will never die as long as there is creative minds out there who enjoys the freedom that a open platform brings.

Meh, I couldn't give an eff to what platform I play on. I'm in it for the games. Though if its multiplatform I'll generally choose Xbox, cause I like the controller better than a keyboard and mouse.

I rather hate console controllers. When PC gaming dies, I stop gaming.

Depends on the next console generation, and if they stamp out the second hand games market with it. If they do I think we'll see a lot of defectors to PC gaming for the cheap games, albeit on expensive hardware. I know you can't resell steam games, but if you picked it up in one of their sales for a few quid/bucks/euros, what the hell?

Of course if Sony and MS don't commit commercial suicide, PC gaming will probably die as the sales drop. After all we get now are console ports anyway, PC exclusives are a rare beast now pretty much limited to MMOs and Civilisation.

I wonder if the PC console divide is largely down to what we grew up with? Those of us who are older gamers are more likely have grown up with PC gaming, so that's what we've stuck with. Younger gamers more likely grew up with consoles and the only PC in the house being a laptop, and likely to be a fairly basic one, so have only ever gamed on consoles. As gamers get older we are more likely to acquire greater demands on our time and will either quite gaming entirely or only have a few hours a week to game, hence buying less games. I wonder if this is the cause behind the decline of PC gaming?

Not in my case. I started with the Atari and played NES and SNES before we got our first PC. Then I discovered the newly-released Wolfenstein 3D, and Dune II, and then moved on to Doom and X-COM and X-Wing and C&C and WarCraft. I quickly discovered that I much preferred the depth and complexity of games that required keyboard and mouse input, and that was the end of my interest in console games.

PC gaming is bigger now than it ever was. It's just a smaller percentage of the overall gaming market. Consoles are more accessible: they're easier to set up, have fewer technical problems, and are much easier to start using. They have mass appeal that PCs will never be able to match.

the thing i like best about people talking crap about pc gaming is when my friend tells me his xbox has more video graphic memory (ie better graphics in games) than pc games....LOL

i build gaming pc's for a living. so i showed him my current rig and the video card that is currently in it. the video card alone, i think gtx 470 atm, the card ITSELF is bigger than the whole xbox almost. about the same size maybe a bit smaller. but thats JUST the graphics, not to mention the superior processor cores that go into PC's over xbox. my friend, not being tech savvy at all, doesnt understand that pc graphics are obviously superior to console graphics i cant understand why he doesnt get it i mean just LOOK at the parts that make up a computer vs an xbox...

w/e at least my computer doesnt get the damned ring of death. BOOYAKASHA!

If it wasn't for steam and its winter/summer sales, it might've been closer to "dead". I'm glad Valve stepped up for pc gaming.
