From the patch notes:

Added a Settings tab into all Inventory windows that allows players to make all secondary Inventory windows open up in a new window as the default behavior, making it unnecessary to hold the Shift key

This fixes it completely for me. No more shift click!!!!

if only it could remember default locations for different container types too, and not have the index crap on the left, and not be slow and buggy.
