Not mad. I live in a wh with a 40m sp and 25m sp toon, lost ships worth billions. I just don't waste my time in low sec anymore... Also have plenty of money... The point is, which you missed by a mile, gate camping is preventing a target rich environment in low and null sec, it is also done because of this... Which further grows the problem. In addition, it's due to laziness, which I consider a tremendously "looserish", quality. And let's say I am a new player and I want to build a transport empire... Good luck keeping him from giving this game a shot after crap like that.

Again... Fewer people ---- more boredom.

Ok, I get your point better now, but I still don't agree with it. Why? Because when I was a new player, I took my Iteron to lowsec on all the time. Yeah, I got blown to bits a couple of times, but in EVE all you need to do is calculate your risks, assess your mistakes and improve your game.

And the guys who popped provided the risk. Players, human opponents, are dangerous. These "loosers" are vital in creating the sensation of a dark, dangerous universe. Without them, I would not have had the thrilling experiences, the heartbeats and the sweet feeling of achievement when I got my assets on the markets in one piece.

I don't really see low sec gate camps as any kind of a problem at all. The barrier is purely mental, as been stated numerous times, gate camps are rarer than faction rats on belts. Furthermore, I don't regard lowsec as a desert. There is plenty of action to be had and stuff to do when action is sleeping.

Sentry guns already limit the amount of pew encounters in lowsec, whether or not this change brings more people to lowsec to stay there, and not just trespassers, remains to be seen. I personally would keep gates as they are, and work on the lowsec as an environment on a holistic level. Rico Minali has presented some fantastic ideas in his thread here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=120882&find=unread.

But how would one go about solving this? I mean, short of traveling through the gate and seeing what's on the other side, there's no way of knowing what you're about to face. Losing a single Tengu hull without any mods whatsoever = 1 month plex for the alt + all the shuttle losses incured, so it's a small price to pay unless you somehow completely remove the risk of the jump, which, frankly, won't happen. Well... unless you could somehow scan the other side of the stargate...

Use a fast cloaky frigate or even your pod to go take a look.

Which requires you to drop your ship somewhere for the time, then return, grab the ship and go through again. With an alt, all you do is drop into the system with a shuttle, check for clear, alt-tab, jump main, problem solved in a fraction of the time. People with alts are still at a major advantage, especially if you're traveling for a number of jumps.

OP, why can't you adapt to the changes that are happening in the environment?

I'm an outlaw and have been since late 2008. I support the gate gun changes, they are long overdue. Gate camping is and always has been the most pathetic form of "piracy." I have always preferred to let people into my systems and then nail them at the mission/exploration site or whatever else they maybe doing. It's safer for the pirate since you're harder to blob that way and it also makes it easier to collect ransoms. This change is good for piracy since it boots some of the riff-raff like the heratic's and their lovely orca shenanigans.

Next up, let's nerf combat probing to hell so that it becomes a specialized skill once again.

Oooh, my turn!

Pirate Fairy Tale: CCP Trying to get people back into Losec

***
There once were three little pirates who went into losec commit debauchery and find booty.

The first pirate roamed around losec in his Hurricane, until he found a Badger at a gate. He immediately landed tackle and began to blow away the carebears ship - his Hurricane shrugging of the GG's with ease. When the Badger hit structure, he convoed the bear and boasted with a gruff, confident voice.

"50M ISK and I'll let yeh live!"

The carebear, this being his first taste of PVP, agreed without hesitation, quickly paying the ransom.
Once the pirate saw his wallet flash, he smiled - then immediately destroyed both the badger and the carebear's pod.
Feeling quite jaded waking up in a new clone, the carebear vowed to never trust a pirate again.

A little while later, the second pirate, quite distraught by the lack of easy targets in losec, decided he would get some friends (read: alts) together in instalocking T3's and set up a camp. Our carebear friend, now having skilled up a nice Drake, decided he would try losec again, maybe to do some exploration.
He jumped straight into the pirates gate camp and was tackled before he could even align. The pirates laughed at his attempt to burn back to the gate - their Loki's having web him to 0. They convoed the bear and in a hysteric voice, demanded.

"Gimme 100M ISK and we'll let you go!"

The carebear's previous betrayal still fresh in his mind, responded with butthurt.

"**** you."

His ship was promptly destroyed, though he managed to save his pod.
The carebear made a note of this, and vowed never to bring anything big into losec again.

The third pirate had been becoming increasingly self-concious that his KB stats didn't quite reflect the level of "1337ness" he was sure he possessed. So he devised an strategy to remedy this, grabbing his Erberus and smartbombing an important Hisec chock-point.
Our carebear friend had been doing his homework, and discovered that the best way to travel losec was in a Shuttle or fast frigate. Having some BPO's he wanted researched, he loaded up his nanoed Vigil and head off for the only station left in the game with slots open.
Upon loading the grid, however, he was immediately blown away by the pirates titan, waking up in his home station, a good chunk of his assets now vaporized.
The "1337" pirate sent him the KM, with the subject line "lol nub".

The carebear vowed that he would never bother with losec again.

Fast forward a few years, and losec is dead, with most systems completely empty. I wonder why?

Gosh, with that type of thought process you could say the same damn thing about pirates.. but no! We need to make a hundred whine threads! We can't have a challenge!

Plus, it ain't null and I have the slightest idea as to why people think low sec should be null sec with training wheels. Low security means LOW SECURITY (relative safety).

Just adapt or die off and let another breed of pirate have his playground.

Just to point out, the people camping the gates are going to benefit from this the most.

They sure would, which is why it's mind numbing to see all these sentry gun complaints popping up.

If I was a Dev, I'd deploy the new Sentry Guns as a surprise ingame event and not tell anyone what they do. Pirate

CCP, this idea is only the second worst idea you've had. Incursions in hisec are the first. Lowsec is not meant to be safe. You talk all day about game balance, but this change makes me think you're trying to make Eve as carebear as WoW. It is totally despicable, and frankly, just kills piracy more than your previous addition of hisec Incurisons. If you would like to know how to properly balance lowsec, try getting ideas from people who actually live there. The hisec carebears that agree with this proposed change are laughable. They just want more secure isk and transit. If they felt the need to grow a bran or a pair, they might have the previously mentioned realities. HTFU, not carebear. That is all.
