Why not make this an actual game mechanic and let people hire NPC mercenaries? They could have different levels and costs. Someone who had been in the game for a month could maybe hire a merc that was good enough to fight off a couple rats in 0.7 or higher. If you were making a few million a day you could hire a better merc that could fight any highsec rat or even a newbie player. Veterans could hire powerful and expensive mercs that could easily fend off a couple lowsec rats or even a moderate skilled player with a little T2 gear (but probably not if they were using all faction). Not sure how many of these NPCs people would be allowed to have at one time or how that would be determined but it seems like a decent idea..maybe you could have a mercenary management skill. It would be nice to have a little extra power when you can't get corpmates to come help or nobody else is on, or you're between corps or alone for whatever reason.

Why you just don´t hire a player then?

This. Player interaction is the most meaningful part of the game, and there are plenty of mercenary players all over the place.

EVE needs less NPC:s, not more of them. DEATH TO THE NPC EMPIRES!

What the two previous posters said plus please search for previous threads before posting. You'll find a few other threads with OPs almost exactly the same as yours and the response is almost unanimously the same as the two previous posters in this thread.

This is probably part of the reason why all the normal humans hate us so much. Blink

There is that fact, you know, you could just hire another guy to do that role for you. This is a Massively Multiplayer Online game, after all. So, if you cannot answer those questions then this proposal will never go anywhere.

I think that there are some valid uses for a mechanic like this (babysitting POS in one TZ corp, new classes of bait mining, Gatecamp breaking). But the mechanic needs to be designed effectively for things like that and not a "pet" mechanic for those who lack the ability to make friends. It should always be better to have another player than an NPC.

Boy, people here sure aren't very good readers. I was pretty clear about the reasons you might want a very basic NPC ally. And explain to me how you can possibly "hire" a player to help you out in combat - there's NO game mechanic to support this and I can't imagine how it would ever be implemented. You'd be running on pure trust which doesn't exist in EVE. As to the whole "previous threads" thing, LOL, seriously? The search on these forums is a joke in case you didn't know. And still nobody offered a single good reason this wouldn't be a good idea other than "its an MMO". Oh, and incidentally I have tried to get people to help me do things before, and they won't unless you're in their corp, but when you try to join they give you BS excuses and won't even consider you. EVE isn't a social game in any way, its barely more than a space MOBA..time we faced up to it and asked CCP for some things to make it playable for those not in the "clique". Surely they t want new people joining even if the old timers don't.

If by the "clique" you mean players that aren't averse to interacting with other players I think that EVE is probably not the game for you.

AFK mining was not enough... so AFK missioning/ratting anyone?

Actually I would love to have a bunch of NPCs rat my sec status back up. Can we add this feature in as well...?

If so, +1!
