How are Barges and Exhumers going to be fitted, after the patch?

What will the new fits look like?

It's my impression that there will be no modules or rigs that affect the ore bay size, and the cargo bay size will be so small that it is incredibly wasteful to spend rigs, let alone modules, on expanding it.

The Hulks (and backup Barges) of my main and my alts are all rigged with Cargo Optimizations, both because it makes non-jetcan mining easier, it makes jetcan mining less stressful (you can be AK for longer periods of time), and there's nothing else that's worthhile to rig them with.

For LOW slot modules, I either go for cargo expanders when I'm not going to jetcan, or if I am going to jetcan then I fit 2x MLU or even 2x MLU II if possible.

But after the patch?

since the cpu and pg hasn't changed, then fittings won't change either.

Are you saying that I will still be fitting Expanded Cargo Hold in LOW slots, and Cargo Optims in RIG slots?

You could read one of the other threads on the topic. Like this one

Though until they appear on TQ, nobody can state how the ships will be fitted. Of course you may choose to fit them differently.

If you are someone who usually puts cargo expanders on your Hulk, then you should fly a Retriever/Mackinaw after the patch. You will have the same non-optimal mining yield except with 27k+ m3 of ore hold. You will also have enough PG and CPU to fit mining upgrades and a modest tank. However you will not mine as much as a maxxed Hulk.

If you are someone who mines in a maxxed out Hulk then you will still use your maxxed out Hulk but you will have somewhat better tank on it. I think the yield might be slightly higher too, I'm not on the test server atm to check.

If you mine solo in 0.0 then the Procurer/Skiff may be for you. I tested it out and a Procurer on SiSi (T1 barge that maybe you have never heard of) and was able to tank a moderate 0.0 belt spawn with a T2 tank and MLUs in the low slots.

Did you really have to make a forum post about this?

Rigs will either be defensive or CPU rigs and lowslots will be defensive(as in DCUII) or MLU.

cargohold optimization's will no longer have any function to barges / exhumers, as well as expanded cargoholds. So what will be used for rigs is really the biggest change to fittings.

2 new rigs are being added that increase mexorite or ice, so thse will be used on ships fitted for a specific purpose.

As hulks will only be used for max yield all the lows will (or should only be) MLUII's. For rigs maybe medium drone mining augmenters? 10% drone yield is roughly 600,000isk per hour. Though you may need mining laser upgrades V or an implant to have more than 1 fitted.

The mackinaw has 3 lows now, so 3 MLUII maybe possible (but again may need an implant/MLU V).

Overall nearly all standard rigs would be useless on a barge/exhumer so it really just comes down to drones, shields/tank, CPU (power shouldn't be an issue) and maybe agility or speed?

Personally I can't think of any rigs that would offer a better bonus than the medium drone mining augmenters for highsec mining. But if anyone can prove me wrong that would be fantastic.

For the sensible learned miner there will be no change, the ship will be fitted with some kind of buffer tank plus resists. maybe a single MLU in the low, a flock of ECM drones to buy time to run before the gank and a fleet of Hobos for the frigate rats in hi-sec

For the carebear I want CCP to look after me while I AFK / don't pay attention while mining types, they will still run cargo hold optimised setups simply to squeeze in more crystals and then cry tears of molten veldspar when they get assploded by a gang of thrashers hell bent on tears.
