Jump to conclusions much? Roll

I have multiple accounts becuase I am in a lot of places at once and having toons that can accomplish that is very useful for me. At any point in time I have a presence is 2 or 3 WHs which if you've ever done anything in WHs you'll realize that trying that with a single toon is just not possible. I'm sure a guy could cross train his alts on one account one at a time to do the same thing but I'm not quite that patient becuase it would take years to actually accomplish anything that way.

Also my current ISK generating activities allow for the number of accounts I have. I pay my main, I plex everyone else.

If I have the means, why not use it?

Well you have your 1 main character on your account that you train skills on. You put that character into a spaceship and then use that spaceship to shoot other spaceships, melt rocks or carry stuff around.

After doing that for a little while you begin to realize that you are in fact playing EVE Online.

I would say this is an intended behavior of the skill system. Everything takes sooo long you really have no choice but to run alts if you want to dabble in different specialized areas during your first few years.

I've got an alt account. Still only have 2 accounts total. It's plenty... but 1 wouldn't be enough. Getting an alt is a good call.

I maxed out at 4 accounts back in 2009-10... two combat oriented, one Indy account and a corporate account that I also built characters to sell with. All those accounts had me pretty much playing Eve for all my free time. ... took a little break and started accounts 5 and 6 and those are the ones I use now. Thing is, my current laptop ain't that great for dual boxing so I might scale that back to 1 at some point.

My time for Eve is nothing like it used to be but I find it a good thing still to have 2 accounts training at once so I can have varied skills and capabilities. There's always that someday when I get into or make the perfect corp to do exactly all the things I want to in Eve.

A couple of corp mates have small armies of personal alts now, as for myself I have two but they are unsubbed at the moment since I haven't had a need for them lately.

But I agree with the OP, it seems like there are fewer "real people" in corp chat and more alts than active members any more. Or at least in my situation.

Alot of the people I know seem to only have one account, or maybe a second as a hauler or something.

As for me, I have 8. Bwee...

I had one account for about a month and opened a second. nearly a year later I started a third. about 2 years ago I started another, but that only lasted a bit as I dunno wtf to do with 3 characters let alone 4. I usually only run 2 at a time and if I have a third it is to haul something or check market prices somewhere else. Kinda thinking about selling one of the characters, dunno if I could part with one of them though.

I suppose a great deal of it is the fact that unless you are operating on an ultra-poor or ultra-rich level, starting more alts tends to be the best way to spend your isk in terms of price vs performance.

Started with one account... Once I felt that there was not enough active playing with one, I got second one.
In a past couple months I've invited 3 friends of mine who sort of "promiced" to play. So at the moment I'm paying for those accounts too. Not entirely mine, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up owning them anyway, because EVE is "too dificult to understand" for my friends.
Thought about just leaving those accounts to expire, but then thought that 2.5 bil per month is not that much and it's not worth to abandon probability of my friends finaly comming to play and having at least half-decent accounts already.

2 accounts albeit my former main industry one is inactive since the time from when I stopped playing....still stuck in 0.0 somewhere...all alone and abandoned...

But no, I am sticking with one account for now. Truth be told, I rather look down on multiboxers quite a great deal, specially due to how it's used in PvP.

You'd think that EVE is massively populated by eunuchs due to the lack of balls that said players display with this silly neutral RR'ing, neutral hauling, neutral everything.

Same here... I have two alts on this one, though... just to try out ships and stuff.

Same, I have Freeze and 2 market check alts with 50 k SP each, not a single day of training used on them.

I really hate the whole alt thing about Eve, it is the only MMO I play (and I actively play 5 other p2p ones, and will soon start Guild Wars 2 as well), where having alts gives people extremely unfair advantages and ways to basically bypass entire game mechanics intended to keep the game balanced and fair, like RR alts, OGB alts, Orca ship change alts, spy alts, kill-your-main-to-cash-in-on-that-3-billion-isk-bounty alts, suicide gank alts, neutral hauling alts, etc.

If it gets even worse than it is now I will probably quit permanently eventually, because people having alts everywhere are incredibly unfair to people like me, and I do not have the time nor the will to control more than one character because that's stupid as hell...

This is an MMO, people should want to play with each other, not solo it up with a personal army.

But of course CCP will never change the status quo because it makes them more money FOR NOW.

One day, people like me will just get sick of playing in a constantly unfair environment and just quit.

And CCP is really putting their eggs in one basket by allowing people to have so many alts, because when a person with 20 alt account quits, they lose A LOT of money.

CCP could limit accounts to one character per account.

You want more alts, fine, pay for an extra account for EACH NEW ALT, I guarantee that alt numbers will go way DOWN if that happens, which is a good thing for those of us that play this MMO the way a MMO is supposed to be played, you know, WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

Introduction of PLEX only served to make this worse because now, ultra rich players (ISK) can just PLEX their way through 50 million accounts.

Granted, I buy PLEX too, but with real money, which people like those buy from me, so in a way I am helping spread a problem I hate in Eve.

One day I might quit, and other people that actually pay real money to CCP will quit as well, and CCP will be left with nothing but people that play 24/7, make a ton of ISK with their 50 million alts but have no real jobs to actually give CCP money from.

At that point Eve will finally die because it somehow turned free to play for 99% of the player base and no one noticed.

Inappropriate signature, CCP Phantom.

I play often, but for how I play I only need one account. One main and I use my two account alts. One account alt helps with trade while the other is for frig/destroyer FW (not a big skill split). A second account could be useful for trade, but spreadsheets and graphs do well enough for the purpose. I don't mine, I focus on cruisers and not capitals, so a second account is irrelevant.

Used to have 3 accounts with 8 chars spread across them, I'm down to 1 with 3 chars because it's all I need these days, 3 accounts was useful as hell in wormholes though.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Is anyone else noticing the same? EVE seems to have less real players, but the ones that remain all have their own personal army.

I only have one.

The only way I'd get more than one is if I could afford to PLEX it.

While you can login with just 1 account, you can't really play with just 1 account.
This is exponentially true if youre a WH player and in the AU TZ like me...
