WTF happened to EVE?

Hi, i took a break from eve over a year ago and just recently resubed again to get my eve fix Big smile

So I log in and first thing i notice is lack of players. The server stats show that only 30k-35k players are regularly on the server. Which is poor considering just a year ago youd get 50k-60k odd at peak times. Easy to notice that the systems are equally deserted when compared to last years.

I would have thought that with new changes (cheaper sub fee, new bc tier 3 ships) EVE would only attract more players, but it looks like the game is definitely getting much quieter than it used to be, so what could have caused this? What made you stop playing EVE?

I'm sorry if there was a post explaining this phenomenon, if you could link me to it I would gladly have a read.

Cheers

In before mockage.

I honestly think that EVE/CCP is still recovering from the fiasco from walking in stations. They made a huge error by forcing that on us and it seems to still be having an effect on the populous. it does seem to be getting better

Welcom back to EVE though.

Still.

I think i stopped just before the much-talked walking in station was implemented and upon returning quickly switched from that to a spinning capable screen (there's a counter now lol).

walking in stations was only a very small percentage of the problem. the main problem was how long spaceships had been ignored and the greed is good fiasco.

It is called selective memory. Objective data suggest otherwise. Also. It is summer.

On the plus side, EVE is much prettier and there's a list as long as your arm of small but excellent changes which have been made. Plus the awesome new battlecruisers.

EDIT: Oh yeah and CCP have finally gotten serious about persecuting botters. This alone probably accounts for a large amount of the difference in PCU; there might be a few less human players, but there are a lot less bots.

May very well be Lexmana mate, and I also checked that site before posting this. But it just feels that systems are not as populous as they used to be

Holiday seems like a good bet tbh, hopefully it will busy up soon Smile

Ohh, maybe they sorted the isk miner bots, lack of them could have brought the numbers down a bit?

Answered your own question partially. Change never stops, if the old get cranky or bored and leave, hopefully they'll be replaced.

My thoughts exactly, bots alone could have made a huge impact on player count

And EVE looking so much prettier! I got to agree with that, the new shader system or whatever makes ships look sick!!! New GPU in order Lol

CCP are trying to turn EVE mainstream so they have to cater to the "wider audience" eg wow players...

What would be your evidence that this is happening?

EU prime time sees 40-45K players online, and they have been steadily increasing a summer is reaching the end.
