Why are people on EVE so hostile and negative?

I'm on EVE and sometimes I feel like I'm on 4chan or Twitter.

I have many times assumed someone was a 12 year old boy only to find out they were 30.

- A lot of Eve players are jaded by years of experience in the game. What is new and exciting to you is old hat to them. They've been there and whatever you have to say about it, they've already thought of it themselves and heard it said a hundred times by other fresh faces. A lot of their negativity is a variation on "not this again".

- Eve attracts people who enjoy playing the bad guy (me included). Part of that involves doing some rather mean things in game and gloating about it. If you take it personally and get butthurt over it, you've forgotten that you're playing a game and need to get that in check.

- Some of us really enjoy trolling and verbal sparring. Some people mistake what we intend as fun banter to be serious business.

- Then there are those people who genuinely need to belittle people to establish their own self-worth. They don't feel good about themselves unless they tear down those around them so they can feel superior to them. Just like in real life, the best approach is to ignore them and treat them like the insignificant specks that, deep down, they know themselves to be.

Because they were treated badly in their turn, and the cycle of hate continues.

OP is missing a trick. you should be blowing up all the violent and hostile people :)

I've helped plenty of rookies, give advice and help to people where i can. I've also ganked officer fitted mission runners in highsec (mmmm, full core-x tank navypoc)

Find like minded people, interact with them sensibly, get on comms and actually talk. Suddenly its a much more real life encounter when your actually speaking.

Then take your new space brothers and go blow things up.

Eve is at its best when making pretty flashes and lines in space.

p.s. dont ever talk to the violent and hostile people, they just want to make you like them (aka space******s)

Been playing for a year, about to unsub due to constant hostility and negativity at each turn.

So EVE, why so hostile and angry?

Yea you should play Orbiter instead. That's like the only game about space that doesn't have weapons. Or wait for Hello Kitty Online Space Vegetarian Adventure.

This is exactly the attitude I was talking about. I wasn't even talking about combat, I was just talking about general hostile negativity and this sort of ignorant comment is just what I'm talking about.

To be honest, this game is full of entitled assholes. Assholes because they like treating others bad for the fun of it, and entitled because they feel that doing this is their RIGHT ("we are playing eve the right way dammit, you are supposed to be hard etc etc").

Still, the game is full of so many other things as well, good things, so I keep coming back/playing. But I've more or less given up on the game being less of an ******* magnet (I think its the free and nonconcentual pvp that attracts them, but EVE needs that as well, so i dunno).

Suffice to say, there are ways of dealing with them:
Use block heavily in chats (in game: right click the idiot in question and choose "block")
Use hide posts for the same idiots on the forums. (same procedure, only forum UI not game UI)

Unfortunately there is no stopping them from doing **** to you in game, but thats part of eve. Removing the constant verbal asshattery at least makes the game more playable for me Bear

Most people I got to know in the Corps and Alliances I have been were pretty decent people. A few jerks and idiots here and there but in average, most people were kind and helping. OP maybe is influenced by what he sees in the Forums or has joined a very bad corp.

We pay for it so we can of course HATE it!

To be honest I think eve jsut shows what people truely are inside. Shows thier true personalitys without the limitations of society or judgement from loved ones.

The human race is only glued together through society and law, without the world too would be a nasty place.

The question is, why do CCP take such a back seat when there are so many things which would be deemed illegal IRL and allow it to happen in game.

SCAMMING/FRAUD/THEFT- prison
Vicomisation/Rasism/bullying etc - many cases prison

CCP dont do anything about any of it and whilst ok yeah this is a game, there are real people at the other end of the keyboard.

The biggest one which supprises me is they allow scamming of plex's directly.... Which in my opinion is just as good as stealing £9.99 out of someones wallet.

its a game
get over it
if you want it more lifelike go outside and hurt people, steal and rob, commit fraud, you will be punished.
That is why we play video games....to carry out what we cannot in real life.

edited for political correctness else I get a million people QQ'ing about it

Not everyone is an a*shat, there are allot of good peeps in EvE, unfortunately due the game design and direction from CCP, there's no trust any more, being honourable is a thing of the past, and it attracts allot of greifers, for all that though its still a great place you just haven't found the right corp yet I guess, keep on looking you'll find some good ones.

Trust no-one...ever. That being said, Yulai Federation (I am in no way affiliated, promoting, positive or negative on this subject just something I randomly came across) has corps within it that go by an honor code (I believe)
Check more stuff out, if you think everyone, or even a majority of EVE is like this then you have barely scratched the surface.

Neckbeards are naturally angry due to McDonalds making them fat. So when they heard about us healthy people playing the game; they assume anyone they meet must be one of us. So they mad.

I think you'll find most folks not in your Corp/Alliance will feel exactly the same way. Your Corpmates and Allies are your friends, the rest of us our enemies and should be regarded as such.
