So EVE, why so hostile and angry?

Because spaceships are ~serious business~ ?

I hear that most MMO forums are a haven of peaceful consensus and tranquil co-operation.

Seriously though, ignore the forums if they get you down. Just play the game. Or try some other eve-related forums with a different atmosphere.

That's why I'm negative.

Because there are all these people who think all these people want EVE Online to be hello kitty online, when in reality, many of them just want a comprehensive gaming experience that does not favor one group over another.

I read somewhere the average age of an EVE player is 25 or something so why do they act like teenagers.

I'm on EVE and sometimes I feel like I'm on 4chan or Twitter.

Yea you should play Orbiter instead. That's like the only game about space that doesn't have weapons. Or wait for Hello Kitty Online Space Vegetarian Adventure.

Orbiter is such a great game, is the only game which shows you how the real space travel is (and will be for a few decades)

To the OP, online games in general tends to have a lot of trolls and spammers. Just mess around with the right people and ignore/pod all the others.

Ez Pz.

But if you keep just playing this game alone, then EVE is not for you.

TEST is super supportive and friendly. We know we're terrible at EvE, so the game can be about having fun. Not about being good. If you're having negativity problems I feel bad for you son, I've got 99 problems but ******* blues ain't one.

Unlike a lot of MMO's on the market, EVE is a game of consequences. If you die in most games, you simply have to restart the level/mission/raid etc and/or go fetch your stuff from wherever your corpse fell.

When you die in EVE you could end up losing hundreds of dollars of equipment that may have taken you months and months of hard work to acquire. That kind of gaming attracts a certain type of person, you'll find a lot narcissism, histrionics, antisocial personality disorders and even sadists and masochists.

CCP Wrangler once said this about EVE

EVE is a hostile place full of hostile people, because that is what it is designed for. Having said that, there are some oasis' in the desert, you just have to look a little harder to find them.

In my neck of the woods...

there is either no one at all, very mean people, or very nice people! The very mean can also be very nice as well depending on the situation..

You should probably go there.

EVE is a hostile and frequently negative place.

If someone convos you out of the blue saying they have a mining op in XYZ low/null system and could use a few more for a healthy cut of the profits... your first instinct can...and should... be "This is a trap, this guy wants to lure me to my death".

What you really need in EVE is trust, finding people you can trust. It is one of the hardest things in the game to get. But once you have it, you'll find the hostility in EVE to be more amusing.

As for the hostility, trolling and negativity on these forums? If they bother you, you can safely ignore them.

EVE is a fairly friendly game when you compare it to games like DotA 2, where making a single mistake will cause people to declare vendettas against you and that they are going to hunt you down and murder your family.

because EVE players are anti-social sociopaths who only dare to reveal their true ugly face on the medium of the Interwebs thousands of miles from the opposite end

Eve is a cult of nastiness, and people here take pride in their fake badass behavior. It's repulsive, frankly. This is my last account and the clock winds down in a couple more weeks, then I am gone. One of the reasons games tend to get dumbed down is the fact that the nasty players don't know any limits in their need to take advantage.

Anonymity coupled with the potential for violence and abuse that is not punished by the traditional safety mechanisms that society put in place allows people to express their true nature. You can believe that if you want, since it serves your need to act out this way yourself. Sometimes a smile is actually a smile.

I agree with the OP. There is a handful (3-5) people who daily troll the forum and act like crapbags. Then there is all the terrible attitudes in the game itself. The only community that is worse is WoW.

I really miss the moderation on Fallen Earth. Top notch community because of it.

Actually, the question is.. why people on every sandbox game are so hostile and negative. Eve, Darkfall, DayZ.. sandbox games where people fill/build the content as they wish and in all of them the violence, hate and paranoia is the keynote. If there are no rules, let there be anarchy... peace is for pussies.

Seems like the human nature is based on violence and hatred and is the main reason why most of humans hate any organization that will stop looting and killing. Until one day a big mouth politician will manage to gather enough stupid people around him and start a war that will erase millions of other humans or even completely erase any lifeforms from the planet.

Surprisingly, even if EVE is very brutal, is the place where you can also find true friendship. If your a rogue hulk ganker you may find one day another ganker and form a very strong partnership and friendship, same goes with the ganked miner that one day can come across some friends and form a strong corp where people will stand together and help each other when any threat will arise.

Anyway, the question is not related only to EVE, but to the human nature. Cut the rules and laws, there will be hate and violence.

I find most 15 year olds are pretty cool and relaxed and just trying to have fun in the game.

Stop hating on teenagers.

I want to know what internet the OP is using where Eve is the only place where all the hostile and negative people are.
