Is There Any Disdvantage to Using the "Jump" button at gates?

We can press the "jump" button before arriving at a gate, and automatically jump thru the gate, rather than trying to time the jump.

Question: Is there any disadvantage to using the automatic Jump? Or, is there some delay in the jump that you could avoid by doing it manually?

thanks

The FC may yell at you if you use "jump" instead of "warp to zero".

If you don't know what is on the gate before you land, it's usually better to decide if you want to jump after you see what is there.

Quick example..

Lets say you are in warp and just before you land you see there are a few ships on scan and a dictor jumps through as you land. Well it's a pretty good chance that you might not want to jump through that gate if you can instead bounce to something to get away.

Quite often you will find that EVE is filled with tards that "NEED" to be on every kill mail, so instead of point you to force you to jump, often they just "assume" you will jump but if you are fast many time you can just warp away.

FW is filled with these types.. You just don't know how many times I've landed on a gate with several war targets and just warped away because they expected me to just jump through and none bothered to tackle me, because they wouldn't be on the killmail.

Second example..

Lets say you are in a BC and land on gate with 2 BC's.. you can try to do the warp out, but if they want to kill you 1 will have to tackle you. At this point you can jump through making them split their ships on both sides of the gate and the one with aggro will be out of the fight for 1 min. This gives you opportunity to make the fight a little more even for a short amount of time.

The only time I use the jump button, prior to being on the gate, is if I'm in a paper thin ship & I know they have fast locking stuff on the gate. At that point I will use the jump button in order to be 100% sure I don't get some odd lag spike as I land that gets me killed. I do this mostly in covt ops ships that have a cloak.

I am thinking of the game mechanics.

Assuming you know you want to jump, and are going to jump thru the gate, is there any advantage to jumping manually, rather than pushing the jump button before you arrive?

I have practiced a good many jumps, but cannot tell if there is any difference.

Jump out a couple times as a hauler DE-cloaks, if you ever use the jump button again its because you clicked the wrong button.

Don't ask about Italics, just tilt your head.

I use jump all the time. I love it's addition to the OV.

If you arrive on gate and it smells like a tarp, then you may not want to jump. Or, if you find a wt on the gate and want to engage him.

Just press ctrl-space and it cancels the queued jump.

Of course you could forget that you were going to jump.

In terms of game mechanics, no there is absolutely no difference.

To answer your mechanics question, there really isnt any difference between clicking warp to and then jump vs just jump as far as lag etc.

You can even cancel it by spamming stop as you come out of warp, and then you won't auto jump.

It's a bit like relaxing the bowel's before confirming that a cubicle is available., you could find yourself caught short in a sticky situation and ejecting your cargo in space.

As a habit I select jump by nature. This is a bad habit! And I am trying to break this bad habit.

Many times I have missed a kill because when I land on gate I jump before I can stop the action.

You are traveling in low and wary of gate camps. You land at a gate and see a player sitting at 0 on the gate. They jump as soon as you enter grid.

If you warped to 0, you'd have the choice of proceeding through the gate (which may contain a camp on the other side) or turning and jumping elsewhere.

If you said 'jump' you might not be able to cancel that before you go through the gate to your potential doom.

That said, I use 'jump' when I'm traveling high sec all the time.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

You cannot cancel jump once your velocity bar no longer reads "Warping". Cancellation via CTRL-Space must be done during "Warping" phase.

I use the 'stop ship' option down at the speed bar.
