Funny touch too that the main dev in the game-that-should-not-be-mentioned has a background as rogue in Everquest, and didn't MB3 talk about his LoL-games with devs? I know people at Blizzard that play EVE, and when I was GM myself back in a game 11 years ago we used to get inspiration from other games as well.

Literally all of these games go into eachother somehow, and most devs I know/have known have been playing multiple games at the same time.

AFK-cloaking in a system near you.

D&D is 35-40 years old around now, so I'd guess that videogame developers aren't really making an impact on quotes from back in the 70'ies and 80'ies. Smile

Damn you for mentioning, I even had it incorporated in my original text, then some addition about how Tolkien literally made Bilbo a rogue in early 1900's, but I figure then I'd have to bring up the Bible again and.. well you see why I left that out. P

Yeah, you can of course draw literatures inspirations back much further than videogames, even though I don't think the Bible would be much of an inspiration of rogueish characters (I know that Tolkien borrowed some points from various religious myths, but a rogue would probably more be polytheistic religions like the Nordic or Greek pantheons).
It's not like any thought, be that expressed in music, books, games, whatever, can be said to exist in a vacuum. They all draw inspiration from current and earlier experiences.

I was originally just stabbing fun at why the OP assumed that a quote was from some stupid cartoon game with no meaningful impact when it could just as well be a P&P game from the late 70'ies, which have had and still has a huge inspirational impact in modern gaming industries, cardgame industries, boardgame industries, P&P industries and LARP industries ...
