return when you spend enough time in Linux outside of internet browser.

Sir, the Internet runs on Linux. I've been developer using Linux for 11 years, first starting with Mandrake in 2001. Go back and actually use the OS instead of pretending you did please

The internet servers do. We are talking clients and desktops. Go back to your basement office, server monkey.

Didn't something like 1% of EVE players use Linux?

Less than 1% used something that CCP could detect as a Linux client. This did not justify the effort required to maintain a client package that constantly lagged (far) behind what the Linux community could provide on its own. There might have been another percentage point or two running through wine, which CCP wouldn't be able to distinguish from Windows clients, but that just further illustrated and reinforced the problem.

Each on its own, those factors might have not been that much of an issue, but combined, it just made no sense to keep it around.

Considering the UI looks like X-Windows on FreeBSD and the code is Python, l o l, why not toss in full UNIX support Roll

Because those things are unrelated.

Also, the server backend is Microsoft - CCP is one of the largest Microsoft customers in Iceland.
