Making money for a battlecruiser..?

Hi everyone,

Been playing eve for over a week now and i really like it.
However i've come across a problem..

I'm flying a Rupture, which is fine and all because i'm running lvl 2 missions. They give me around 400k isk per mission.
However, i'm interested in buying a battlecruiser (got the skills for it), preferably a hurricane or a drake.
My problem is making money for them. They cost around 50m isk, which takes a long time for someone doing lvl 2 missions.
Do i really have to grind these repetative lvl 2 missions or is there something else i can do?

You can borrow isk from a close friend, or do one of these if u get bored with missions:

This just leads me back to my original problem.
I don't have any close friends to borrow money from, as i just started playing this game.
The question i asked was if i had to grind out lvl 2's to get money for a battlecruiser.

I don't feel like i'm ready for pvp or incursions/ratting etc yet. And even if i do get to level 3 missions i probably won't have enough money for a BC .

Any other suggestions?

I would recommend joining a corp. There are many that will help support newer players in getting their first ships. I also used to be in a corp where we'd run level 4's and bring along folk in smaller ships (who could not pilot / afford larger ones) to handle cruisers and frigs, they could reap the benefits of income from bounties and rewards, as well as loots.

You'll find that solo, building up to certain tiers is long and nightmarish. EVE was meant to be a 'social' game....

...and who knows, maybe that corp you find will be full of fun. Or full of gullible people you can steal from. It's EVE. Do what you want!

Thanks for your usefull response,
I was thinking about joining a corp, but i'm not sure where to find such a corp that you mentioned above.

First, you probably don't have the skills to fly a BC after one week. Yes, you can sit in one etc, but to fly one effectively requires at least some support skills.

Second: yeah, it is hard. Finding other people to help out makes life way, way easier. So look at corps. You certainly don't have to commit to one full on to start, but join up and see what's out there. You just might find a benefactor or two.

Best way to find a corp is to look\post in the alliance and corp recruitment thread.

And I would check out Eve University. GOOD way to get a grasp on all / various aspects of the game.

This

After a week there is no way you can fly a BC effectively. Don't rush into it or you will just pop your nice new BC and be sad.

You could try building one? Mine some rocks, buy a 1 run blueprint, build your own battle cruiser. My first battleship was one I built myself, from mining in an osprey. It took a while.

as several people already stated: just because you can undock a battlecruiser does not mean you can fly lvl3 missions. take your time, see what's what, read up on stuff.
as for earning money: lvl2 missions are not exactly a cash cow. you may want to take a look at exploration, station trading, salvaging etc. with the way mineral prices are right now, even mining might be better money for a new player but don't quote me on that.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I recommend doing the SoE epic arc as well as finding a corp.

There's nothing wrong with buying a PLEX to get a jump start on your ships. You should be able to fit a couple of decent Battlecruisers fully outfitted with that, with enough left over to buy a Battleship or two later when you are ready for level 4's.

It all depends on whether or not the $17 for a PLEX is worth more than the time it will take to grind out the ISK you need.

Also, if you haven't done the SOE arc yet, you can pick up over 10 million ISK with that which will get you a decent cruiser to make level 2's and some 3's fly by.

as soon you have a BC you will want a BS and realize you have no ISK for that. Whats wrong with cruiser? Don't rush.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I started with mining, bantam->osprey->retriever->drake should work for you just fine. Find a high-sec industrial corp, those often run daily orca mining ops.

Flew a Hurricane after a month of playing. Big mistake.
Flew a Hurricane after eight months of playing. L3s were a breeze.

The most fun I have is flying smaller ships, in which I trained for Assault Frigs before jumping up to even t1 cruisers.
Btw, with the right fit and training, you can fly Assault Frigs in L3s and they are cheaper than BCs.

I'd warmly recommend you to try out salvaging, if you haven't already. Doesn't take that long to train for (Salvaging II or III will be just enough) and it boosts up the profit you get from level 2 missioning.

Fitting a salvager and a tractor beam in your mission ship might not be a good idea, though: having a dedicated salvaging ship is better, so you can keep your loyal Ruppy just for the killing duty. This can be done cheaply, fortunately. If you are flying Minnie ships, Thrasher with salvagers and tractor beams fitted will do just fine. With maybe one or two Expanded Cargohold modules fitted it will have enough cargo to take in all the loot you get from one L2 mission.

When you have salvaged enough missions, just pile all the loot in an industrial ship and haul it to the nearest trade hub.

in the short run salvaging on the fly is perfectly fine, the rupture has free high slots anyway.

I should buy an Ishtar.
