Dearest Sir,

I apologize in advance for the lack of notice regarding this correspondence. You may not recall, but in the past we served together in Her Majesty's navy while on patrol off the coast of Zanzibar during the Boer wars.

The purpose of this letter, as abrupt as it is, is to plead for your assistance. You may not be aware, but presently I am tackled in a belt. This unfortunate circumstance has befallen me during a most difficult time, and I am calling upon my skilled colleagues, past and present, to assist in extricating myself from this predicament. Any assistance you can afford to render would be greatly appreciated.
