I began to hear a lot about EvE in the gaming blogosphere.

The stories of real people engaging in subterfuge and infiltration, bureaucracy and propaganda, titanic fleet battles and long wars of attrition were enough to get my ears pricked.

In my first few days of playing, what really impressed me was the breathtaking art direction - stylised and yet nearly believable - painting an eerily foreboding image of the future.

Since beginning to play in earnest, I've not played another game as merciless and rewarding as EvE. Apart from the juicy internet spaceships, what will keep me playing is CCP's dedication to regular self-improvement and the expansion of the sandbox - a formula that I think will ensure New Eden's continuation into the future.

On a side note, I was a big fan of the Escape Velocity series, especially Atmos' Escape Velocity: Nova. EvE feels almost like it's natural successor in almost every sense. My only gripe with EvE is the lack of consistent quality writing and narrative; playing EV: Nova felt like reading a trilogy of books, something I miss sorely now.

I was looking for a game targeted to adults that I could make my own stuff in. Eve is the only one.

I retired early in real life and needed a time sink. I was living in a part of the country with longer winters so eve fit the bill.

A friend of mine had been bugging me for months to play WoW.
After saving for a month or so, I splashed out about $2,500 NZD on building a new PC.

As I installed the WoW demo disc, I had a look at the different game threads on NZ's GamePlanet Forums (AKA GP Forums, GP) and saw an area for EVE Online. I recognised the other games listed there, not knowing what EVE was I clicked and had a browse at some of the posts and some of the screenshots...and thought it looked pretty sweet.

That and I was dying to see what my new card (at the time an ATI 4870x2) could do...so I downloaded the client.

Went through the tutorial, didn't really think much of it, then had a chat with people in the recruitment channel, and found a corp to join. My new corp mates gave me a run down of some of the stuff you could do in EVE, and I figured out some stuff on my own.

My first character was mainly a miner, I figured it'd be a reasonably safe way to make some ISK, I remember tractoring a jetcan behind my Navitas, and dropping ore from that into a secure can...I thought it was pretty damn sweet (hey I was new, alright? lol)

Then the notification came up about downtime, and I was like, "Downtime? Nooooo, I wanna keep playing! I only just started!"

Good times Smile

Now I have 4 accounts, with 4 characters, all with their own special purpose.

Long live EVE! Big smile

Bored with game I was playing and came across Eve somewhere on the web
Figured I would try it cause it was a space game and not a wizard game.

Long time ago though when just finding eve was random luck.
