Is it possible to play EVE casually?

There was a time in this game that i was a super CEO trying and never off this game. It got to the point where i considered putting a ad in the papers asking if there were any childless couples with a basement that they did not use.

Along time ago i asked for advice on this forum about being a CEO and one person wrote "put a gun to your head now" and that is the advice i will give to anyone who wants to be a CEO. i once had 16 private convoes come up before the screen had even loaded (ye gods)

Anyway i got burned out and stopped playing.

Question. Is it possible to play this game casually. i mission in a 5/5 Tach nightmare and can make a plex in a day if i work hard. it has the second highest DPS of any Battleship and is the best mission ship in the game just melts everything (ETF warriors before you get upset and feel the need to post raw data the Nightmare has such a good tracking system that most of its hits are "well aimed" and "excellent". This is not shown on ETF. For everyone one else i fly a gank/tracking nightmare 4 heat sinks and 2 tracking mods in the mids. )

What else can i do when i only want to play sometimes for a few hours a week at times. PVP in lowsec is Gaylente and ive not tried nullsec. is it possible with a one man set up and an unskilled scout ?

I can fly amarr/caldari boats and ill be moving onto minmatar in the next week and after i completed that i will have trained ever faction in the game.

Any advice will be needed but i need an EVE online experience with no responsibility at all. my days as a CEO/diplomat are well and truly over.

I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

Not sure what you want.

There are a lot of things you can do in this game that will only take an hour or two.
Especially if you have no requirement to make ISK.

If you need to make ISK to buy a PLEX well now it changes things and you are limited on what you can do.
If you pay RL cash for your monthly subscription you can do anything you want, as it doesn't matter if you make ISK or not.

IT all comes down to what you are interested in.
Mining
exploration
pirating
PI
Trading
traveling
incursions
redvsblue
research
mission running
chatting in local
spamming in local
ship spinning
corpse collecting
ganking
spying

Okay I am out of things, I am sure I missed some items.

Thanks for the hit. Isk is no problems as it only takes a day or less to make a plex and i have more billions than i will ever need so i can play for free for the next 2.5 years.

Exploration is always fun although nothing beats highsec missions regardless of what anyone thinks

I missed this one.

This is very possible, in fact playing casually works in your favor here.
Your not going to be around long enough to get attention.
If you do get attention you can always just log and walk away, no harm you were limited for time anyways.
Gate camps might slow you down initially but even those are a case of.
Camped, go around or log back in later and try again.

Have fun, nobody can tell you what you can and can't do in this game.
It is all about what you are willing to do, and how much patience you have.
Easy goals tend to bore people quickly.
And you have nothing but time to burn

Best of luck.

You can do whatever the hell you want in eve, providing you find a corp that suits your needs. Especially in 0.0.

A good corp with a good group of guys that understands real life and lets you play with them while you can is the most precious commodity in EVE. I was lucky enough to find that 2 times I am hoping for a third.

This is no way a one way street though, being a former CEO you'll know how it works in terms of activity and membership, a little effort for certain ops might be expected. 0.0 adds the need to be able to fight for your rights, but you can do that in different ways, through organisation, production or isk if needed.

Enjoy the game, do what you feel is fun and help out your friends and any place can be called home, casually. And if you get hooked again, your abilities won't be underused if you choose to show them.

Playing Eve-O Forums can be pretty casual.... everything else takes at least a few hours of gameplay to be worthwhile.

Join some bloated nullsec alliance that doesn't care for activity levels as a simple grunt - risk-free nullsec access, roams, blobwarfare, no responsibilities...

There's all kinds of 0.0 corps which just want you to show up for the weekly CTA (call to arms). So that's 6 days you can do whatever you want, or not even log in.

Truly, 0.0 is only for hardcores.

Macro Tengu's do not know the word 'casual' and CCP's anti-macro policies actually make it easy for you to know when it is time to sell one character and buy another.

I've been playing casually since 2007 while running 5 accounts (most closed atm), I don't care about isk and I'll certainly won't work for it but that doesn't mean I don't HAVE it. The trick is to stop picking goals that force you to grind (like making lots of isk, I really don't get why people see this as a goal in itself). Apart from that, if you pick something to do that's labour intensive then you'll have yourself to blame if it bores you to crap.

In my case I do some WH PVP, if I can be bothered (haven't been bothered in ages) I'll wardec some carebear corp for loot&ransom or kill a mission runner and generally just frolic about while not having any real goals or deadlines. These days I mostly chat in help&rookie or help people/corps with alts.

Excuses are the refuge of the weak.

And this is why EVE will never be able to expand its subscriber base until they make it possible to earn 400 million isk in one evening's worth of game time when the player is an active subscriber (Not on PLEX) and has a full time job, kids, and a wife to look after.

Short answer is, yes. But it's going to require significantly more than the inflated subscription fee that CCP already charges you. You can completely avoid the grind if you're willing to dish out $60/mo in addition to the sub. Then you can have pretty much everything you need/want to go pew pew. But, oh, since you're not active you'll also need to divert some of your funds to others to take care of responsibilities that are generally shared between players who grind the game. Afterall, noone wants a corpmate who only comes on to see if anything is going on. And so, you'll need to entice them to want you as their corpmate by being the guy with the isk. And that's pretty much the secret to Mitten's popularity.

hmm. There is no shame in being a pawn. Pawns are what makes the world go round in eve, that and the dam russian macros..... (Ваше живое доказательство того, что коммунисты не имеют мотивации.)

Sounds to me like you had a high sec CEO problem. Plz correct me if i'm wrong.

Join a major 0.0 alliance or even a small one that is good at pvp; and just be the muscle. 1 of 248 hellcats, 1 of 40 scorpions, 1 of 300 drakes. You get the point. Check it out. Dive in. You won't have fun if you don't try.

Dang. I thought the subject line read "as a CASUALTY" and I was ready with a rip-roaring YES! Casually? I never do anything casually. Why bother?

Sure, you can play casually. I do. Mostly industry, missioning, PI, that sort of thing.

You can even play casually in a corp...if they will allow that.

What I could not do casually was play in an active alliance in 0.0...tried it...failed to work out.

So many good replies here

yes i was a highsec CEO with all the headaches that brings.

and joining a corp is out for me. i want to be a one man gang everytime someone private convoes me these days i want to turn of the game (the horror)

I did wardec a few corps but after i killed the first one the rest hid in a WH. Me in a slicer and 7 drakes and a tengu hid in a WH FOR 7 DAYS. what is News Eden coming to

Vin Hellsing. It is possible to make 400 million in an evening but you have to have the ship and the knowledge to do it. It took me 12 months of investment to get a elite nightmare. 10k raw damage every 6.7 seconds plus drones. But remember that if everyone can do that then PLEX will cost 40000 million.

I may hang out in Russian space as that is probably the hardest of the hard right in there. turn up in a frigate get swamped with Supercaps.

All time will tell and thanks for all those great answers plus the randoms
