Most valuable highsec ore found in 1.0 system

I was bit surprised when I discovered that Scordite is the most valuable high sec ore and third most valuable ore in the whole galaxy.

Is there some sort of cap that is causing it?

I find it funny that you can make really good isk by mining in 1.0 noob system compared to most of the 0.0 systems.

Also it´s even funnier that in noob school systems you are not allowed to gank, bait or grief so you can´t touch miners mining scordite in 1.0 school systems.

Isn´t this bit weird that one of the most common ore is more valuable than many of the most rare ones?

Is highsec mineral supply depleted or what?

Nah. it's just because no-one mined it.

It's the primary source of Pyerite. And the price of /that/ has gone up significantly, of late. If I had to hazard a guess why, I'd suspect it's because Pyerite was oversupplied from Drone Poo, which built up large stockpiles. Those are now exhausted.

Until recently, Scordite not been mined, because it was worth less than Veldspar. and that's been stuck in people's heads. All the miners who don't pay attention (or use a ore calculator like the one on my site) will keep on mining Veld. So the price will rise. Until an equilibrium point is reached.

However, when the masses do notice, the price will fall, as there's /no/ barrier to entry, on mining it.

Woo! CSM XI!

Trit rose, people stopped mining scordite and other ores.

Frankly, I find I get way too MUCH of the stuff. I use far more trit and mexallon than I do pyerite.

It really comes down to what you mine with. The Veldnought for example makes more isk per m3 of veldspar than any other ship.

Why? Because it can.

It's also important to remember that this is a signature.

aside from t2 crystals, which take like 24 hrs to train for [or some other laughably low time that i can't be bothered to get an accurate time for], what you mine makes no difference as you rake in the same m3 for everything unless you're using crystals.

the only exceptions being ice and mercoxit, but we're talking high sec so you can ignore mercoxit.

Ore prices have been a roller coaster in the last 6 months - I always check prices before I go out there to know what to mine, although in most cases, what I mine is driven by what I need in my corp supply chain rather than refined ore prices.

I actually like the fact that pricing has changed in wild interesting ways recently because that adds variety to an otherwise extremely exciting mining task - not sure I can handle the excitement. Getting rid of drone poo has been really good to the barge drivers out there.

Yes, and in all seriousness "The most valuable ore" is what you can mine in the most quantity. The isk per m3 of Mercoxit for example is higher than Veldspar, but if you mine enough veldspar than the quantity alone would be of more value to you as a player as it would be easier to obtain and the sheer amount you can mine yourself would offset the isk you would make from rarer ores.

All in theory of course.

Definately. I think we will be seeing a decent increase in the number of both High-Sec miners and High-sec mining corporations.

The trouble with Scord that I've noticed is in high sec there's just not that much of it. OK, yes, plenty of rocks but you can pop them with 2 or 3 cycles, even in a pristine field in a 0.5 that hasn't been touched for weeks. When I strip a belt I usually end up with around 12m trit and only 1.5 - 2m pye. I don't think build requirements for most goods use quite the same proportions, hence the under-supply of pye on the market.

I'm Australian, so I end up playing immediately before and after downtime. I still find plenty of Scordite to mine before downtime: you just have to move one system over. Look for the less populated systems. Move out of Caldari space.

More speculation about why Pyerite is so high in value right now over in Market Discussion.

It's the same in 0.0.

My understanding of the rules is that messing with Noobs in rookie systems are off limits. Anywhere else noobs are free game.

Older players trying to hide under rookie system rules means nothing as the rules only apply to noobs. The thing that is the saving grace to miners there though is no can flipping is allowed at all, under no circumstances. Though suicide ganking those older players are still allowed to my knowledge so Hulks should still be free game there.

All in theory of course.

Wut?

You mine every Ore at the same rate of m3 per time. The value of the ore per m3 times that rate is your income rate.

The resultant post-refining volume of minerals isn't relevant (in fact, a smaller volume of minerals is better because it's easier to transport).

obvious exceptions of mercoxit and ice to be noted as they're mined at a different rate because.... ccp are awkward.
although mercoxit is arguably amazing because the m3 is lower than other ores for the same isk/time

Merx has to be special because... umm... Oops?

But yeah, less m3 to transport is nice. I suppose it depends on the Ore Compression's ratio though.

THere are many reasons why Scordite is so valuable (in order of importance):

1) The war in Delve. Ship production requires large quantities of Pye and Trit. Everytime there's a war, prices for Pye and Trit skyrocket.
2) Hulkageddon put significant pressure on high sec ore supplies.
3) Null sec miners mine in grav sites, which lack appropriate supplies of high sec ores. Either that, or they are too stupid to realize that Spodumain is the worst possible ore to mine.
