So the other character on this account was forum-banned for necro-posting. Can someone please outline the age limit for a thread before it is considered necro-posting?

If that date does exist, why are threads past that date not auto-locked?

This thread is not in relation to my personal situation, I am asking a general question, so please don't lock this thread asking me to contact customer-service in respect to my case.

That is indeed a good question. On the old forums, threads were just locked after 6 months. Maybe a similar feature should be incorporated on the new forums.

~Badposter since FOOOOREEEEEVAAAAAR~ I come back after 2 years to THIS? ~Now 4 years apparently

Posts are auto locked in about 3 months. It should be after 1 month and neco wouldn't be a problem.

IMHO it depends. Necroing an issue that's still relevant and still unresolved should not be that bad. On the other hand, Necroing a troll should be a serious offense. But is an issue is still relevant and the OP was kinda trolling about it, it gets shady.

Threads are given 90 days now if I remember right. However, OP wasn't banned for necro'ing a thread for general discussion, he was banned for necro'ing a score of threads with one offs to dupe other players into starting up an old argument that had long since died, i.e. for the lulz.

I believe the official limit is the point when you get a forum ban for doing it. It can't be a strict limit because people are notorious at finding loop holes and exploiting them. A good warning sign for necroing is, that nobody has posted in the thread for some time and your new post isn't contributing anything of value either. You're basicly making a useless post in an effort to give life to a dead thread. This is an unnatural violation of God's intended natural lifecycle for a forum thread and therefore you need to be banned for your deviant behavior.

Threads should auto-lock in 30 days. Maybe make an exception for F&I but otherwise if it's 30 days ago who cares?

Signatures should be used responsibly...

There is no set time-limit. If a thread is relevant even a year later and you revive it to bring new and interesting discussion, that's okay. Being a d-bag like you were doing, and just reviving random threads with stupid one-liners is not okay. I wish they banned all your chars from the forums.

What I did was scummy, but look at the anti-social thread. It was obviously still very relevant, people were debating as if it was posted yesterday.

I did it because there was very little substance in the forums recently. All fluff/barbie bullshit and nothing actually relevant to EVE. I proved this with my old vs new portrait thread.

And you subscribe solely to post on a forum. I hear Somethingaweful has lower rates than EVE.

Well, on SA you would get banned (or at the very least a probation) for what you were doing too. It tends to be a feature of well moderated forums that people who are being scum get taken care of by the moderation team.

My money was on Malkavian, he necro'd a post in the last day or so. Guess I lost that bet. Where's the midget?

It makes the difference that it clogs the front page with out-of-date threads with a spam post at the end of them. The problem is that it pushes the actually active discussions off the front pages. Oh, and the spam is a problem too…

No. It pushes current discussions onto the second page. If they're crappy and content-less, they'll get their on their on their own without the need to spam-bump threads that lost their relevance thee months ago.
