Gallente solo/small gang pvp viability?

So I've been playing this game as a high sec mission runner for the majority of my EVE life and I've recently taken to roaming Low sec in a cookie cutter Rifter build with tech 2 modules and guns. I've gotten a few kills and lost a few ships. Overall, no extensive experience by any means, but I'm starting to grasp the general mechanics of everything in the little low sec universe I live in. The thing I've noticed is that I never seem to see very many (if any) Gallente ships other than an occasional Enyo roaming low sec either alone or with friends.

So my question is this: Are Gallente really that viable outside of battleship/capital ship pvp? If so, what seems to be viable? I just don't really see the viability of splitting my damage into "okay" drone damage and "okay" gunnery damage. And the only Gallente ships that seem slightly interesting to me are the Enyo and maybe a blaster Thorax platform. I'm seriously considering training up Minmatar ships since, personally, I don't see the allure of Gallente ships anymore.

Any suggestions for what I should look into steering a skill plan toward? I'm fairly open to switching ship races.

From my own personal experience gallente are the best for solo pvp. gallente ships come packing with that little something extra that can give you the edge if you choose to exploit it. The myrmadon is really OP for solo fighting and can tank most ships easily. heck i even took down a cane with a brutix that was trying to kite me. yes i ran him down, scrammed and raped face but that's a trade secret on how i did it ;).

Overheated MWD, scram and web. Flying the opposite direction and when he tried to close the range again you fly right at him.
Oh and i hear the Incursus is very good now along with the Enyo

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

Minmatar have 3 superior BCs, Cyclone, Hurricane and Tempest (mistakenly classified as a BS ingame) although the Myrmidon does have some solid fits and is in general a decent enough ship (all races have decent Tier 2 BCs, however).

Cruiser world is roughly even between Vexor and Rupture.

If you want a nanoHAC you want a Vagabond/Cynabal.

Frigates, I heard, got rebalanced. I haven't flown one in ages, though, and when I last flew one, it was Dramiels all around. I think Gallente now has superior T2 frigates to Minmatar.

Given that a ship rebalance is in the works, if you like Gallente, might as well keep flying them; hopefully the stupid things like rep bonuses on BCs, and some other misgivings will go away, and Gallente will have a strong lineup again all the way to BS (where they are decent at the moment, anyway).

One thing gallente do have in their favour is they have the only tier 3 that can do solo/small gang work without being a boat that explodes when you sneeze on it.
