If you are still reading this, I'm afraid I'm going to tell you to IGNORE quite a bit of the advice given above as its just plain wrong (though well intended).

People are advising you to "train this race" or "train for that ship". They do this because of their own limited positive experiences doing the same.

Don't listen to them. Eve is a HUGE game with infinite variation. There is absolutely, 100% no such thing as a "better race for PvP" or "race with the best ships". The races are all good - balance is pretty damn good.

As such, you should first identify the ship (probably a frigate, destroyer or t1 cruiser) you WANT to fly, perhaps because it looks cool or you like the bonuses. Then you should find a basic fit on battleclinic and then work towards the skills needed to fit it well.

The most important skills for PvP tend to be "support" skills especially those that help with fitting. Engineering V, Electronics V, Weapon Upgrades etc. - you need these whatever race or ship you go for, so start with them.

You picked Gallente for your character - this doesn't mean you need to train for gallente ships (the existing skillpoints you have will be inconsequential in a few months) but it doesnt mean you shouldn't either. Browse through the t1 ships, find something to aim for and get going!

This is kinda my appoach to PVP. I stay out of the mindset that "this thing trumps this thing all the time" because I like to find something I can make my own. I just think I needed confirmation that I can fit how it suits me and not have to worry about someone with "the best ship with the most popular fitting".

I have been training Amarr as I really like their designs and wish that when I started playing, I had more knowledge of the races etc.

What would be my BARE minimum before I should think about going into low sec nearly full time?

First you need a way to generate income and restock your ships in low-sec. I would recommend a corp to help with the logistics.

As far a ships and guns. Getting basic skills for fitting a frig/dessi is all you need to get started, fights tend to be only marginally dependent on the actual ship and more on the technique, setup/initiation.

Yea, Ive learned a tough lesson about initiation this afternoon. I must remind myself constantly that ECM scrambler range is 20km and Stasis is 10k, not the other way around lol
